Also take into consideration Melo and JR never had any interest giving effort on defense.
so as a coach who doesn't have the balls to actually coach, especially since melo and especially smith were never in a position to call the shots.
so if woodson can't get his guys to care on defense as a coach, what makes you think he can do as an assistant coach?
oh but fizdale likes him and fizdale is the flavor of the month so woodson doesn't suck, his defense is good, his switch defense was never a joke, blah blah blah etc.
Im not in favor of bringing Woodson back, but it starts with the players/culture. Past regimes have basically encouraged immaturity without consequence.
That and JR and Felton refused to fight through bssic picksSark wrote:Dantares wrote:what's funny is he got heavily criticized for his switching defense when he was the knicks coach. but now switching is the best way to slow down those spread offenses that emphasize high picks and create insane spacing because of 3 point shooters with deep range.
Switching only works when you have players that can guard multiple positions. If you don't have that, you just end up in mismatches, and get beat continuously, similar to what happened to us all the time.

He put Melo at the 4.

As long as you have the personell.
We should work on that.

he got criticized because he never adjusted his switch defense even though chandler or whatever center always ended up defending the opposing team's pg.
the opposing teams purposely forced the mismatch and woodson never made any adjustments to not have that happen.

It still happens

Not as much. Frank gets over picks and so did Burke at the end of the season. Lance gets over screens. Jeff didn't demand switching like Mr. Potato Head did.

hopefully he is offered a HC job somewhere else before this gets any traction.

His head coaching gig in the nba is over. Assistant coach sure but no team is desperate enough to hire that clown.
He had the most fakest cringe reactions when he was coaching here. Couldnt stand woody. Jason kidd was our coach not him. Got exposed in the playoffs and the next season too. From first to lottery in just 1 year. Fluke.
