hypothetical trade - Towns for KP?

Post#1 » by NoLayupRule » Sat May 19, 2018 8:37 pm

Reports of a discord between Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves' organization continue to trickle out this offseason.

The Wolves fired Karl-Anthony Towns developmental coach after their elimination from the playoffs.

"Has anybody noticed what's going on in Minnesota between Karl Towns and that organization?" said Brian Windhorst on the Lowe Post.

"It's not, um, well..." started Zach Lowe before "Darren Wolfson alluded to a lot of it on a podcast a couple weeks ago. They're not in a good. And I said on some podcast recently that I just have a gut feeling that something crazy is going to happen there this summer. It's not in a good place right now internally."

"If I was the Celtics, I would make a quiet call to Minnesota," replied Windhorst.

So it begs the question - would you trade KP for Towns?

Towns is a local kid, KP is coming off an injury.
KP is a home grown star
Towns is a stud but he has his flaws

Its a real question since Min would probably do it if they are in fact having issues with Towns. Its a lateral move perhaps. For both teams. Or is it?

End of the day I actually think KP is better but Towns has a good chance to be better himself. Plus he's not injured and KPs recovery is a bit of a question.

It would be a major move but would it be the right one for both teams?

I started a thread on Towns coming to NY yesterday and it was removed. Please lock this thread.

no way they do that trade strait up. IMO Towns has proven a lot more than KP so far in their careers.

but easily yes in a NY minute.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

I’ll keep KP. Towns is awful on defense. You can’t win big with him as your best player

obviously you do it because towns is better offensively and doesn't have the injury history of KP, he hasn't missed game his entire career, but he's still a very flawed player. i wouldn't feel good about it though. I've been dreaming of both of them leading the knicks to a title for some time.

If the coach and GM feel KP is not fully committed to the team, move him asap for Towns.

KP for Towns is honestly a push. It's not worth making a trade for Towns if you have to trade KP. If you could get Towns without giving up KP, it's worth considering a trade.

I guess that begs the question then

would you give up this years pick, Frank and the 2020 pick for Towns? Unprotected?

So KP and Towns could play together?

Hmm. I'd want to do it, but the roster is too thin to put enough good players around them without picks. I mean, not impossible, but difficult.

Would not include the 2020 pick.

We don't have the assets to trade for Towns, without blowing up our future. If we trade for Towns, we're still in the same situation as always: don't have the assets to build up around the core. We're always taking 1 step forward, and 2 steps backwards in these types of trades.

It's the same song and dance we've been doing forever. Trade the farm to star phck, then don't have assets to build anything solid.
