Can you imagine the Knicks, with KP not back from an ACL tear, gambling on Porter's back?

Sounds like a top3 pick, genius

It is, I'd hold Porter out also for the first half and get him in a fully funded NBA conditioning program. Tank will be rolling by March!

Porter is going to be a top 3 player in the game and a perennial MVP candidate? That wasn't his projection before he broke his back for the second time.

I said what I said. I see greatness.

NBADraftnet has comparisons of Durant/Joe Johnson.

If he passed a physical from our team DR's and dropped to 9 you have to take the chance.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

I'm on record saying I'd take Porter @ 9.
Those last 70 seconds, Randle in a nut shell.

Awful 2 for 1 3PT attempt when we are up 2
Doesn’t close out on Sabonis --> open 3
Takes another side step off balance 3

We got sucked into the Randle vortex where all good feelings go to die.

Everybody get out there and spread injury FUD. Do your part to help him fall to 9th.

Just some background on Porter's condition (herniated disc) and treatment (microdisectomy of the spine):

- 84% of patients that undergo microdisectomy recover with good or excellent results
- Between 1-20% of microdisectomy surgery experience another herniated disc at some point

Just looking at the numbers, nothing jumps out as particularly scary. Which is all the more reason why we should be cautious if he falls to the 9th spot. He's way too talented.

Honestly, outside of Porter's perceived shot-making ability (which you'd have to hope he can continue against NBA defenders considering he pretty much missed all of college), nothing else really draws my attention to him. Not his athleticism, ball-handling ability, defense, shiftiness...

But do these stats apply to the entire pool of people that have had this surgery, which would include non professional athletes? If this said - 84% of "professional athletes" that undergo microdisectomy recover with good or excellent results, then I would feel more comfortable going with Porter and taking a gamble. Obviously there's a big difference between an average Joe and an NBA player in regard to the punishment and stress put on the body.

If the draft went that way...I might see what it would take to get 12 & 13 from the Clippers.

Results:

A total of 61 NBA players with LDH were included, of whom 34 underwent discectomy and 27 were managed nonoperatively. Return-to-play (RTP) rates did not differ between NOT and OT players (77.8% vs 79.4%). When compared with controls, OT players played significantly fewer games and had a lower PER than controls during the first postoperative season, but no difference was seen 2 and 3 years after surgery, with no difference in postoperative career length. In contrast, no difference in games played or PER was seen between NOT players and controls, although NOT players played significantly fewer postindex seasons.

I believe we can get it done if we trade our 9th and 36th pick for the Clippers 12 & 13th.

How many of the patients are 6’9 professional athletes?
