I like Baker and we should have brought him back, but it was more so the way we signed him using our exception and giving him a player option. In the grand scheme it really doesn't matter too much since Timmy was a much worse contract but there were better ways to bring him back and use our cap. Just was another example of Mills not knowing what he wax doing despite being our GM for 5 years.

what happened to Knicks loving their subpar mascot players? I scrappy lil Opey Cunningham. He plays harder than almost everyone on the roster and often was one of the few Knicks who played defense. Not mad at him commanding the end of the bench.
Exactly, seems many just play a game of trash/not trash when there are a spectrum of roles on a team. He'll have his role to play even if it is only as a locker room guy and practice player.

His wing span is very wide relative to his height. And he's a bull.
He is not a good finisher on contested shots because he has no lift and gets stuffed, but if he has a window on the lay-in he has good conversion skills. We saw him execute the back door play on the delivering and receiving end very well.
And he was largely a mistake free PG when filling in at the point even if he is not a creator.
The team often had a positive +/- when Baker was on the floor so I know he can make a difference in the right spots. A good coach will find a use for him.

if they cant trade him, cut him. he's a waste of a roster spot. would rather play Dot. Also this year's draft has some pretty good 2's that could be available at 36. ESPN had us taking Bruce Brown (who I love, but wont fall), Josh Okogie is a personal fav of mine

It's actually even worse then that. In order to sign Hardaway for his full $71mil we had to first renounce Baker, then use our exception to sign him. I think you have to give him a player option in that exception or it at least isn't as team friendly as we see.
Where as if we had given Timmy a little less money (I still didn't want to sign him at all) we could have kept Bakers rights, signed him to a friendlier deal, and used our exception for something else. I think we could have also signed Dotson for a cheap 3rd year. It was a waterfall effect were one bad decision led to others. Maybe not a huge deal, but horrible use of our cap.

Ron Baker and Timmy in the same offseason...Mills was amazing at his job...both given a player option too...the mills specialty written all over it.
