Because Layden gave/acquired them when they were being paid starter level money, so those kind of minutes were expected (if not actual starting), plus it handcuffed the ability to make a not great team any better - or set that in motion.

Yes, that was the problem. They weren't bad players, but they were only role players paid Magic Johnson money. It really was the moment the franchise drove off the cliff.

If people think $4M for Baker is bad, Anderson & Eisley's contracts were almost like giving Baker a max contract in today's dollars.

Correct. In truth, I can't think of one positive move that Scott Layden made. At least Isiah drafted well, but Layden didn't do ANYTHING right. Literally anything.

i prefer fleer of those two, but i was a loyal NBA Hoops brand collector.

flair stepped in a couple years later with some really high quality cards. but they were too flashy and not nerdy enough for me. NBA Hoops layout was easy to read and i learned all the stats back then. i used to be at the lunch table just reeling numbers off like dustin hoffman.
