OT: Earbuds under $100 - recommendations?

Post#1 » by HarthorneWingo » Wed Jun 13, 2018 3:19 am

Looking for a pair of new earbuds. Don't have to be bluetooth but I need a mic for phone calls. Not looking for a super heavy bass. Looking more for a balanced and defining tone. Nothing over the ear. I'm checking out

Bose
Klipsch
1More triple driver
Sennheisers

And suggestions?

Off topic. Beats by Dre 3 wireless usually $199 is on sale for $109 jump on it. I can vouch for these I have the black and gold Lebron edition.

That clip behind the ear looks uncomfortable.

I've gone through my fair share of earbuds and headphones over the years. I've had some Klipsch earbuds, Shure, Beats by Dre, Bose, Grados, and no matter how expensive they've been, if you're using them every day, something will eventually happen to them. Either the wire gets loose, a clip breaks, or in my case, I end up losing them. Decided to try some cheap joints from monoprice due to a recommendation from a friend. Picked up a pair of bluetooth joints for $20. Obviously, the sound isn't as good as the high end joints, but they don't sound cheap either. I refuse to buy another pair of expensive headphones ever again.

I had the 2s before they short circuited. Honestly, super comfy. Stay in perfectly while lifting / running, too.

This. Also, compare with any sales on Amazon, Best Buy, or Newegg.

Time.for during a holiday too. 4th of July is near, so it'll save you even more.

Runners. I tend to use the skull candies for that. They dont last real long but...

The wireless I'm just starting to look for a higher end option for running. I dont know yet.

I have owned Etymotic ER-4s since 1998. They've gone back for repairs multiple times over the last 20 years (and been completely replaced by the manufacturer for the cost of a minor repair) - but I swear by them. They're beyond your budget - but they have models that are within your budget that include a microphone. The Etymotics offer the best sound isolation on the market as well as incredible detail. I actually use them to cut off the outside world when I meditate, even though I'm not playing music through them.

check out etymotic. i think they have a $85 model. i have their fancy ones and they are certainly one of the most revealing, detailed & sounding neutral earphones out there. im willing to bet money on their $85 model sounding better than most other earphones that cost hundreds. def not for bassheads tho...

The least expensive ER-4s I found was $259. They have hf5s for $99.

My fear in spending the extra money is that I lose this shyt. I tend to lose things.

The Etymotics all share the same sound - and I agree about being afraid of losing stuff. I have two other pairs of IEMs that I travel with at the moment, Shure SE215 ($89) and Hifiman RE-00. The Shure are pretty good for the money - although they lack the extreme clarity that the Etymotics bring.

Then I should be good with the hf5s?
