OT: Bucks rookie Donte DiVincenzo only has 3 dollars and 71 cents in his bank account needs his first nba check badly

Milwaukee Bucks rookie in desperate need of first paycheck
Former Villanova guard Donte DiVincenzo wasn't expected to declare for the NBA draft until his monster performance against MI in the national championship game. The school definitely turned a profit off of him as all of college sports do these days, but those days are about to change for Donte DiVincenzo. Teammate D.J. Wilson recently posted a photo on instagram, showing that DiVincenzo's Wells Fargo bank accounts only have a combined $3.71 ($2.68 in checking, $1.03 in savings).

All of this will be far-gone memories by the time the rookie sees that first check hit the wire, as he is bound to make north of $2 million during his first year in the league, according to rookie-scale salaries for mid-round draftees.

The Milwaukee Bucks announced they have signed first-round draft pick Donte DiVincenzo to a rookie scale contract.

As Wilson wrote in the post, which was captured by Yahoo Sports, DiVincenzo's "life is boutta change" because the first-round pick is slated to make about $2 million as a rookie and at least $4.4 million over his first two years in the National Basketball Association.

You wonder how much Villanova pocketed from his 31-point performance in the NCAA title game.

DiVincenzo appeared in 85 games, making 12 starts, during his three seasons with the Wildcats.

There are millions of people who are 10s of thousands of dollars in debt just to get a college education that he got for free. Guess how many of them are going to make more than 4 million in their first two years after college without actually getting the degree that he will be doing.

Him having 3 dollars in the bank and not being 10s of thousands of dollars in debt while about to be worth millions is better than most after college. Seems like he used the college and them giving him a scholarship as a platform to get the money he probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

DiVincenzo's representation agency is supposed to be fronting him money to keep him afloat until that first paycheck comes hit the direct deposit.

The students like the school they are going to so support the school team whoever the players are and the money goes back to the students sports programs.

If those players don't like that then nobody is forcing them to agree to receive an education to play basketball for the school, they can take their ass to Europe, it's a free country.... er.... world.

Yes, that's true, but everything is out of whack financially. At BC now, their apartment all come with large flat-screen TVs, free wifi and cable, central AC, microwaves, etc. ... which is great but who can afford to spend $50k a year for that? I'd like to see these schools give back to the inner cities (maybe they do) to help with redevelopment in the community.

Seems like you're both right. But what do I know? I'm high and drunk right now. :P

I saw Max Weinberg's Jukebox concert (free!) at Tanner Park in Amityville tonight. Max played with this band, The Weeklings, and they took requests off of a list which scrolled continually (continuously?) throughout the show. Every three or four songs, Max would leave the drums, grab a mic and tell Bruce stories and take requests off the list on the big screen hung from the back of the stage. Check them out if you have the chance. Definitely a lot of fun.

I'd like them to give more scholarships to us citizen students that have great grades but no money to pay for it. I think if someone takes public money, they have to offer their instruction to the public. With internet anyone could get access to digital educational content.

But I wasn't trying to go off into some grand critique of public education money simply by recognizing that money which is brought in to the athletics dept help funds the dept and students. The super few, the 1% some might say, will go on to NBA millions, most of the rest of student athletes throughout all collegiate levels need that scholarship degree to work in real life.

In the end they still don't have to go if they don't want to, the scholarship is for someone who does.
