Today is the final day of our initial 30 day free agency period. 13 teams currently have 17 open roster spots. 29 of our 30 teams have legal rosters as of now considering every team now only needs a 13 man roster to start next season. I will be away next week at a place with questionable wifi so the next stage of free agency will begin Sunday 8/5. Any undrafted college players, G-Leaguers and any other eligible players not yet put on the free agent list will be available for bids during this next stage of free agency.

Now, after 81 offseason trades, our initial draft and our first attempt at free agency, we are going to hit a bit of a lull before our season starts back up again in November when the SIM comes out. I would like to keep people involved and active during this time and have thought about a few different scenarios to do this. First, I thought about having anyone who wanted complete a preseason power rankings. Basically, what I was hoping for is for each GM to rank the other 29 teams and send them to me via PM. I would tabulate all of the rankings and release a BaF preseason power rankings before our season starts. No GM would be forced to do this, but any team who doesn't participate, will not be ranked. If you want to see how your team is viewed, then take the time to rank them and send them in to me anonymously. Maybe we can kill some time and have some fun over these next three months.

My second idea to kill this long dead period is to have a season preview. Basically, I would assign one team at random to each team to do a preseason writeup. Nothing crazy, just strengths, weaknesses, predictions, etc. Again it would be anonymous and could be fun to hear another GM's thoughts on your team (similar to an SI preseason preview with the quotes from the anonymous front office exec). And again, there would be no penalty if you don't participate, other than your team will not get previewed.

Finally, as far as yesterday's topic of the day, extensions. I've been thinking about a fair way to come up with something and think I have an idea that could work. I will spend tomorrow refining it and maybe next week and then write something up either tomorrow or when I get back from my vacation.

Any thoughts on any of this, let me know...

I like the power rankings idea. I know 2010 had thought about doing a draft grades which would be cool if a few GM's went for it now that the dust is clearing from Summer league. Offseason grades would be cool if GM's were down to put their rosters from last season compared to now too.

I thought about this also and started putting together an "IN" and "OUT" for each team from last season to now. It really is kind of crazy though. Boston has 11 new players, Brooklyn has 8, New York has 8 etc...each team basically changed more than half there team which could make a grade more difficult to judge. I was going to add this part to the season previews that people would write up. I like the idea though for sure.

Draft grades would be great too if anyone wants to do them.

Already doing my homework: my power rankings are almost done. I just need to review my lists, re-read the arguments I've written to support my rankings, see if I'll change anything, and add the offseason grades + draft grades before sending everything to Bish.

I changed my team a lot after taking over the team this offseason.

The Hawks were the 1 seed but I feel like we're better (or maybe we just have more players that I like lol)

From

Jeff Teague/Shaun Livington/Tyus Jones
Danny Green/Kyle Korver/Joe Johnson
Kevin Durant/James Ennis/Mike Miller
Paul Millsap/Jonas Jerebko/David West
Tyson Chandler/Bismack Biyombo/Jason Smith

To

Ricky Rubio/Yogi Ferrell/Landry Shamet
Justin Holiday/Joe Harris/JR Smith
Kevin Durant/James Ennis/Jonas Jerebko
Paul Millsap/Luc Mbah a Moute/Anthony Tolliver
Willie Cauley-Stein/Richaun Holmes/Lucas Nogueira

Shrug.

I like what you did to your team. Got better at every position almost. And younger.

Started offseason with

1 | Ben Simmons | Jerryd Bayless | Jawun Evans
2 | Victor Oladipo | Wayne Ellington | Wade Baldwin
3 | Caris LeVert | Dame Dotson | Malachi Richardson
4 | Trey Lyles | Finney-Smith
5 | JaVale McGe | Kevon Looney

finished with

BAF - Brooklyn Nets
1 | Ben Simmons | Trey Burke(6th) | Jawun Evans
2 | Victor Oladipo | Wayne Ellington | Wade Baldwin
3 | Caris LeVert | Garrett Temple
4 | Trey Lyles | Ivan Rabb | Jarell Martin
5 | Joel Embiid | Moe Wagner | Tarik Black

Pretty happy with that. Burke is my X-Factor really. Need him to put on a show to be deserving of the moves I made to lock him up. Burke is a 6MOY candidate, Temple has established himself as a high end rotational piece, Wayne Ellington is an elite sharpshooter in this league and Wagner was drafted because of his immediate impact and high floor. Don't have a 2nd rounder next year, so Rabb and Baldwin are essentially my 2nd draft picks.

Current Roster

started offseason with

Dennis Smith Jr/Quinn Cook
Josh Jackson/Tyrone Wallace/Royce O'Neale
Jayson Tatum/Kyle Anderson/Glenn Robinson
Skal Labissiere/Caleb Swanigan/Jonah Bolden
Bam Adebayo/Dwight Powell/Justin Patton

ended up with

Dennis Smith Jr/Kris Dunn/Quinn Cook/Malik Newman
Josh Jackson/Donte Divencenzo/Tyrone Wallace
Jayson Tatum/Royce O'Neale
Bam Adebayo/Skal Labissiere/Jonah Bolden
Deandre Ayton/Patrick Patterson/Caleb Swanigan

i think my team vastly improved imo. my starting lineup has a good mix of scoring and defense. my bench got a major upgrade with Kris Dunn as my 6th man. it was tough giving up kyle anderson in a trade but he was pretty disappointing in the playoffs and i needed to make a play for a shooter for so i got Donte Divencenzo in return. i am pretty satisfied with my offseason overall

Goal for this upcoming season: Playoffs

2017-2018 roster

PG: John Wall /Reggie Jackson/ Devin Harris
SG: Demar Derozan /Joe Harris/ Sindarius Thornwell
SF: Andre Iguodala /Darius Miller/Josh Huestis
PF: Ryan Anderson / Trevor Booker
C: Brook Lopez /Willie Reed/ Tarik Black

2018-2019 roster

PG: John Wall /Reggie Jackson/ Devonte Graham
SG: Demar Derozan /Glenn Robinson III/ Kelan Martin
SF: Stanley Johnson /Reggie Bullock/ Dorian Finney Smith
PF: Dwight Powell /Mo Speights/ Chimezie Metu
C: Brook Lopez /Bismack Biyombo/ Christian Wood

Last year the bench was my biggest weakness and I feel like it's improved significantly this offseason. Although we won like 45 games last year, it still wasn't enough to earn a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The battle for the 7th and 8th seed was super competitive and intense during the last couple weeks of the season. Hopefully this year we have positioned ourselves to make another run at it.

My roster at the end of the regular season, not counting FAs was

Mason//Knight/Teodosic
Murray
Osman/Brooks
Markannen/Giles
KP/Pasecniks
Exempt Frank Jackson

My draft went as follows:

Post lotto I had picks 10, 40, 49, and 51

1. Traded Pick 10, Jamal Murray, and Dillon Brooks to the Heat for Pick #3 and Luke Kennard.

2. Traded Luke Kennard to the Lakers for Goran Dragic and the #34 pick

3. Traded Teodosic to the Bulls for pick #37

4. Traded pick #49 to the Raptors in exchange for swap rights to Toronto's 2020 1st round draft pick and a 2021 2nd round pick.

5. Traded pick #51 to the Nuggets in exchange for a 2021 2nd round draft pick.

My Picks

#3 Luka Doncic
#34 Jacob Evans (picked #28 by GS IRL)
#37 Josh Okogie (Picked #20 by Minny IRL)
#40 Justin Jackson

I have now wrapped up my post season by signing Dwayne Wade and Jeff Green to 1 year deals.

My Current Lineup (likely starting Wade at the 2 and Dragic at pg, but we'll see):

Brandon Knight l Frank Mason
Goran Dragic l Dwayne Wade l Josh Okogie
Luka Doncic l Cedi Osman l Jacob Evans
Lauri Markkanen l Jeff Green l Justin Jackson(MD)
Kristaps Porzingis l Harry Giles l Anzejs Pasecniks
Exempt Frank Jackson
