Knicks have no choice but to stretch him if they want to be players next year and if they truly believe they have a shot at Kyrie.

There were some posters that wanted us to showcase him to see if he’s tradeable. Unfortunately his game has diminished so much that that isn’t worth trying. We’re going to regret stretching him instead of just letting him expire.

I know many knowledgeable posters have broken down our cap situation already but please bear with me. So if we stretch Noah & trade Lee, we will have one max slot available correct? Does that include our extension to KP & will we be able to bring back some of the players on our roster who are gonna be FA's next year (Burke, Mudiay, Kanter, Hezonja etc)?

In a way, teams will now have less leverage over us when trading for Courtney Lee. Now they know we already have a Max slot set for next summer and we're only dumping Lee's contract for the sake of opening up minutes for the youngsters. It won't be a repeat of 2010 when Donnie Walsh was bent over by Morey and traded Jordan Hill, 1st round pick and Jefferies for a expiring T-mac all for the sake of having the extra 6 mil in capspace. Morey took advantage of our situation. Now teams won't really have that leverage over us since we would already have the max slot set by stretching Noah and dumping Lee now would only mean resigning someone like Hezonja which isn't a dealbreaker for us.

Dumping lee doesn’t appear to be easy

This move is predictable and disappointing

Silver linings, frees up a roster spot. And, not that he factored into the C rotation mins anyway, but this clears the decks for MRob & Kornet to receive all of the back up 5 mins, which is a good thing imo. Better than begrudgingly giving Noah a sporadic 5 mins here or 10 mins there b/c he's making big money.

I dont like this move, at all, but as stated above there are some positives to it......gotta laugh to keep from crying folks

If we stretch Noah, trade Lee for an expiring, cut Lance only paying the small guaranteed portion of his contract, hold off on KP's extension, and renounce the rights to Mudiay, Hezonja, Vonleh, Kanter, and Baker we'll have enough to offer a max contract.

If we stretch Noah, trade Lee & Hardaway Jr. for expirings, cut Lance only paying the small guaranteed portion of his contract, hold off on KP's extension, and renounce the rights to Mudiay, Hezonja, Vonleh, Kanter, and Baker we'll have enough to offer two max contracts.

Then who cares. We already got the max slot set.

The entire premise of this post is off. We don't have cap space for a max contract simply by stretching Noah. Lee still needs to be traded without taking on any salary. We can absolutely still get taken to the cleaners if we don't play this smart.

Actually, we can afford a max without trading anyone if we stretch Noah, renounce everyone except Burke and KP, and our draft pick isn't in the top 3
