If Melo was such a popular locker room guy, the Knicks would have had an easier time attracting better FAs after they amnestied Chauncey...or when they traded for Bargnani...or when the All-Star game was in Brooklyn and Melo said, he's going to be actively trying to recruit guys.

Am I saying Melo is a bad guy? Hell no. I'm saying, this IS a business. EVERY NBA player wants to get paid and sees themselves as worthy of $20-40M/season. Problem is, there's only so much cap space and within this finite cap space there is a pecking order. The highest paid go to the players who are transcendental down to the lunch pail guy. Who fits WHERE?

And therein lies the trick.

I wish Melo the best of luck. I'm sorry he didn't work out but it's CLEAR, the Knicks had no plan for him. They just hoped he'd automatically attract guys who'd do the job for them.

I think Melo will likely resurface in either CHA or WAS. Wizards might feel desperate and kick the tires like they did with Howard. MJ was fond of Melo and maybe a talk with the GOAT will give Melo just enough fire to effort.

Fair enough take, but i think Washington, at least had bigger fish to fry. Though they're only 2.5 games from being 8th seed, they need to figure out what to do with the additional 20mil they're to pay Wall. They're in a peculiar spot right now, and are under the gun. Perhaps after the smoke clears, sure... But not sure if they want to go out in a Melo blaze right now.

I think Charlotte might be more of a viable option.
