Halfway through. This is MUST watch stuff.

Just amazing.

Now I'm going to check out the rest of the remastered stuff. All on my "watch soon" list but had been putting it off. If they are remotely as good as this, they'll be worth it.

This is mentioned in the doc.

It's an awesome live recording, not released until much later.

Of course, it's Sam Cooke at the top of his game. The backing band is the King Curtis Band, a legendary band in it's own right. Just amazing stuff.

Interesting how history gets suppressed, first actively, then with time.

A buddy of mine recorded it on a cassette tape when it first came out and I just played it all the time in the car. One of the best live vocal recordings I've heard.

And do you see how smart, smooth, and confident this young man was at an early at. He had that vision and drive and a soul that wanted to make opportunity for his people. What a shame the way it ended. Sam got careless that night.

If you haven't had a chance to listen to the "Night Beat" album which is a much more bluesy and darker collection of Sam's singing.

He was very disappointed in his performance at this gig and the critics gave him bad reviews.

Sam Cooke strove for true independence. That's was seen as a threat then, and it still is now in my opinion. That battle has yet to be won.

I'm generally not a conspiracist, but MLK, Malcom X, Sam Cooke and Bobby Kennedy, all preaching civils rights for African Americans, and two of them, at least, preaching for common cause among poorer whites/African Americans, and all assassinated within, what, 2 years?

I mean, there's ways to analyze and study each instance in and of itself, but looked at as a group, through the lens of history, sure seems suspicious.

Me too. This and Night Beat are two of my most prized records.

I also have a copy of Aint That Good News, but it's really beat up.
