2019 NBA Draft Rumors: Hawks Eyeing Trade Up from No. 8 for Jarrett Culver

The Atlanta Hawks aim to utilize their 2019 NBA draft capital to move up and select Texas Tech star Jarrett Culver, according to Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo.

Woo noted that the Hawks may need to jump the Phoenix Suns, who will pick sixth, if they want Culver. Per Woo, the Suns are "extremely high" on Culver.

Culver led the Red Raiders to their first national championship berth in 2018-19. He averaged 18.5 points on 46.1 percent shooting while adding 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

In the 2019 NCAA tournament, he put up 18.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals.

As of June 5, according to SNY TV's Ian Begley, Culver had worked out for the New York Knicks (No. 3 pick), Los Angeles Lakers (No. 4), Cleveland Cavaliers (No. 5), Phoenix and the Chicago Bulls (No. 7).

Bleacher Report

The Hawks really love Jarrett Culver.

Hawks should trade #8, 17 and relinquish their claim on the Cavs 2020 first rounder (Top 10 protected) for the 5th pick if they really want Culver.

Doesn't go top 5 any other year

His athleticism and playmaking are great, but he struggled to finish at the rim (53% iirc) against OVC level competition, his jumper isn't good (he has literally no pull up game at all, from any distance), and he completely lacks interest in playing defense

He's a guy you take a flier on at like, 8 or 9. He's not nearly as good as his raw numbers look like

If I had to guess, I'd say he's best case scenario Rondo with more bounce and no defense. Which he could be a good player, but he's not a guy you build around

Wow that's a pretty harsh take on RJ. I think he has a primetime scorers mentality and some serious dog in his game. He's way better than you give him credit for. I think his game translates really well to the NBA.

I'm talking about Ja

I'm not in love with RJ at 3, I think any other draft except maybe 2016 or 2013 he's a solid 4th or 5th pick, but he is in my opinion the 2nd best player in the draft. You take him without question, but he's not nearly as bust proof as I'd like

If Barret is gone by 3, what do you think the Knicks should do?

You have some feelers for trades already put out there leading up to the draft with teams for DSJ. You take Ja who is a bonafide blue chip talent at PG. You then take the best offer for DSJ and parlay it potentially in your trade for AD.

No, you trade back and take Culver, or Garland if you really want a PG. Cause he's a better prospect than Ja

Ja is being overhyped because this class is weak overall, and the only other quality PG option missed basically the entire year. Any other year, he struggles to crack the top 6

He's a B grade prospect, he could be good, but y'all keep over hyping the sh*t outta him. He's not a blue chipper

RJ, Frank, Mitchell, DSJ, Knox, all our future picks for the next half decade plus a couple first rounders from the Mavs.

This team is definitely stocking up on young talent. I really hope they allow these kids to build organically rather than trading the farm for one guy.

My main issue is why would we be trading any of these guys right now? Their trade value is SO low outside of Robinson, it makes no sense to me why we'd give up on a bunch of 20 and 21 year old kids when they all have so much room to grow, together no less.

I'm team Frank all the way and I think him and DSJ in the backcourt will surprise a lot of people next season. I just hope both of them are grinding this summer and improving in every facet of their games. If either of those guys (hopefully both,) develop a consistent jumper, watch out. I just have a strong feeling DSJ and Frank will work very well together.

DSJ is better than him in every category besides playmaking. The gap in playmaking is small also.

Haven't the Suns stepped in before to help facilitate trades for the Lakers? Maybe I'm just imagining it.

At least them getting Ball would make sense.

Mitch / Jordan / Kornet
Knox / Carmelo / Vonleh
Kawhi / Dotson / Mario
Barrett / Frank / Trier
Kemba / Smith / Allen

If Cousins is available for the MLE you take him instead of Jordan. And also Smith and protected first for Isaac, Warren or Tucker if you want more athleticism and defense at 4
