Of course he is. He had an abysmal season last year. I don't see why he wouldn't?

I don’t understand how one goes from being so dominant to this. Dude throws close to 100 mph.

Ed Whitson Syndrome. AKA the Javy Vasquez Syndrome, Randy Johnson Syndrome, Carl Pavano Syndrome. Even Roger Clemens had problems adjusting to NY. Playing for the Mets may not be as pressure packed but it is NY and the pressure is palpable even with Met fans and the media that covers the Mets. Once he got off to that bad start it was a train wreck going downhill with an avalanche following him. Diaz may have been better off just "slipping" coming out of the shower and ending his season early last year.

True. Many of them played while George was owner. He might've had a little to do with that.

But Met's fans are already beginning to to bury Diaz after just 2 relief appearances and only one was not good.

Yeah too early. But that's the deal right? Mets fans and the media won't let you forget a bad outing and will keep on you for producing to expectations in what is right now a very hostile environment for Diaz.

Yep. Maybe the empty stadiums will reduce some of that unwanted stress. Who knows? I’d like to see Diaz stick primarily with his fastball and only use his slider out of the strike zone. That seems to be the pitch that gets him in trouble the most.

excited to see david peterson make his pitching debut, first mets 1st round draft pick since harvey.

idk what to expect, coming out of college he was never going to be a front line starter -- his value was always being pretty muc mlb ready and an innings eater with his 6'6" 240 pound frame.

he generated groundballs 65% in '18 and 53% in '19 so he's a pitcher that'll give up hits and needs a good defense behind him.

I was shocked as heck with how Diaz performed last season. Yeah if anything the empty seats hopefully will help. He has great stuff. But when you have that deer-in-the-headlights look it's hard to use it.

Peterson looked good tonight. I gave him a B+. I really liked his slider, change up, and poise. His fastball, while not overpowering, has a nice tail on it.

he looks like a good 4-5 starter.

you could tell with his body he can throw 100+ every outing.

I don't know if you caught it, but after Peterson threw a real nice change up the Red Sox cut to two players (I think one was Benintendi?) and they looked at each other and one of them shook his head up and down to say "That's a very good change up." And it was.

It's nice that we don't have to see Diaz and a rookie pitcher having a good day.

The lefty Chris Young, except better.

I was thinking of that last night. Plus, as GKR discussed, he hides the ball very well. I really enjoyed watching him pitch after dumping on him for his rather lackluster minor league career.

his stuff played up nicely. Made me feel a lot better watching Wacha and Peterson with good stuff...I was getting worried about our back end rotation with the Porcello dud he put up.

porcello is the one to worry about, wacha always had stuff just inconsistent.

also health for him. Wacha at 91-92 at times last year vs Wacha at 95-96 is a compeltely different pitcher.

His change/split was in the high 80's so you can see that if he doesn't have that mid 90's fastball his pitch differential just isn't enough to fool hitters. If he maintains that velo all year he will be a very good pitcher for us.

nothing is the same in 2020 outside the mets losing games no other team would lose...

I hated pinch hitting JD for DSmith. It accomplished nothing at the plate and worsened our late-inning defense.

Also, Wilson clearly didn’t have it.

yeah I didn't like that move either...I am always in favor of having a guy that has been in the game hit unless its a clear mismatch. Dom also leads are team in RBI's too...and JD like you said is a bad defender.

Even with all that he red sox closer was still trying to give us that game. Conforto and Cespedes had AWFUL at bats.

Awful. I thought the game was ours at that point.
