Re: Offseason Thread: KD opts out...To KD or not to KD
If KD says yes, I'd do it.
Redshirt year for him, let the kids grow for another year, get another high pick next year + the mavs pick, and at that point you'll have a lot of assets. Preserve the rest of the cap space we have with 1 year rentals or trading for 1 year contracts to acquire more assets.
Everyone saying no will be salty af once videos come out of his rehab progressing nicely and him dominating pickup games in the off-season.

This would be a Knicks kind of move to sign a player coming off an achilles injuries, Knicks will never ever learn. They’re so star phucked that they would give their souls to have stars at the garden.

This is essentially doubling down on a blackjack hand when you have 15 and the dealer is showing an ace as their face card. It's way too risky and completely unnecessary to be doing something like this. Continue to build and be judicious with the money. Don't go after guys with names just for the sake of getting them.

Knicks will get KD this year!!!
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

What evidence do you have that KD will be back to his former all star self? It’s nearly impossible to come back from Achilles injury and continue being the player you were before.

100% agree. If people thought we gave bad contracts in the past- i.e. Houston, Jerome James, Joakim Noah- just wait to see the vitriol this fanbase will build for Durant when they soon realize he'll be getting paid 50 million dollars at age 35. Absolutely insane.

Re: Offseason Thread: KD opts out...To KD or not to KD
Still think that the Knicks are best for both Kyrie and KD.
If Kyrie signs here, he's coming into the worst team in the NBA last year and without KD this year, if Kyrie can take this team to the playoffs, he will be looked at as a top player that he wants to be considered. With the Nets, he's going into a playoff team. A small step up means nothing there. Would only confirm that he's not a true star. If he fails with the Knicks, it likely gets put on how bad the Knicks are.
KD will come back year 2, with a fringe playoff team (if Kyrie signs) and have a chance to take the long time loser Knicks over the top. Something no one has been able to do. If he can't, the injury gets blamed. Good for legacy either way, since he took on a challenge. With the Nets, it's much less of a feat.
Both guys can really help their reputation here. I want them here, because it's really hard to get those caliber of players. We won't get this opportunity for a few years.

Exactly, but you know the Knicks need to have stars at the garden. Doesn’t matter if they play on one damn leg. It’s way too risky to tie so much money to a player over 30 that has one of the worst injuries for a basketball player.

Durant is still considering a number of scenarios in free agency, including a return to Golden State, league sources tell ESPN. The New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and LA Clippers are also believed to be considerations, sources said.
Durant, 30, can sign a four-year, $164 million deal with another team, and remains eligible to sign a five-year, $221 million deal with the Warriors.

A lot of great players who have torn their achilles did so late in their career. Billups, Kobe, etc..
but Dominique Wilkins was 32 when he tore it.
The following season he averaged 29.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He went on to make two more All-Star teams and two more All-NBA Teams - the All-NBA Second Team in 1992-93 and the All-NBA Third Team in 1993-94.

KD needs to prove he is KD before we pay him like HE is KD
We have become her league Destination for players looking to get paid before retirement. That or their big payday before they fall off the cliff. We are so desperate to restore the Knicks to greatness we often overpay for Damaged goods. With any other franchise you take the risk on KD. Of this off-season is any indication of our luck,of our history and negative experiences along these lines in the past. You pass on KD! Kyrie injury Prone ! KD is coming back from a Major injury in his thirties. Stick with the youth invest your energy in our player development, our coaches that will develop these talents and accept we have to build. There will be no hero to come and save the Knicks. We must circle the wagons! Build it for ourselves (Talent). Spurs have a prestige’s franchise not because of their Free Agent signings. Their prestige comes from player development. We need to let this get rich free agency scheme go. If the deal is 100% good for us..... we need to wait for the right deal To come along
