Rooting hard for the Nationals. Hope the Astros losing really gives the FO a kick in the ***.

Harper always acted like the Nats were lucky to have him.

Has there been any discussion about accounting for teams located in tax free states when it comes to luxury tax? Apparently Cole would save about $20-25 million if he were to resign for the projected $250-280 million range with the Astros. That means if the Yankees or the Angels offered Cole $270 million the Astro's could offer him $245-250 million and it would be comparable in terms of what he'd end up making.

That aside, this is what I would consider an "ideal" offseason:

1. Sign Cole - 7 years $260 million would make him BY FAR the highest paid starter in major league history and the highest per year salary overall

2. Sign Bumgarner - sign him to a Happ like deal (2 years $35 million) to be the rock and veteran anchor to the rotation to replace part of what CC offered the team.

3. Trade Sanchez - if the Yankees weren't also saddled with way too many homer or bust guys then maybe it could work out keeping him but with his shoddy defense and all-or-nothing offense, it's extremely hard to wing it all. Still he should still have some significant value to teams looking for a power hitting middle of the order bat on a small contract.

4. Resign Romine - Romine showed that he can hit for some pop this season and no reason to expect him not to be able to repeat that going forward, but it's really his pitch calling, makeup, competitiveness and smarts that I think will allow the Yankees to be able to have him be the starting catcher or at least tag team him with another veteran catcher.

5. Sign another veteran catcher - there are a ton of veteran backup catchers that have started a good number of games hitting free agency (literally a ton)...so it should not be too difficult to add a quality catcher to help Romine by providing more game potential and some more pop than your typical backup catcher. Robinson Chirinos, Jason Castro, Russell Martin, Francisco Servelli, Alex Avila, etc.

6. Pass on Didi - unless they can get him to re-up for cheap (3-4 years at $15-18 million, more years less per year). Didi will be 30 by the time his new contract starts. Moving Torres over to short may hurt the team defensively but you have to ask, how much better would Didi be defensively to warrant a large contract? Offensively Torres is clearly better than Didi. And DJL has more than proven that he should be in the starting lineup.

7. Pass on Chapman - again unless we're talking about adding maybe 1 year and $15 million on to the 2 years and $15 million left on his contract...maybe. The Yankees have enough closer like relievers on the team to better spend the money elsewhere. If you take a look at the teams that made the postseason only one other team had a "high priced" closer. And that team got bounced (again) in the 1st round. You get Cole. You get a healthy Severino, an adjusted Paxson, Bumgarner to stabilize the rotation and offer veteran toughness, then Tanaka and Happ (it's going to be an even year and he usually does well on even years) gives you a strong veteran backend to an elite front end. Built for the playoffs.

8. Trade for the next Urshela, Tauchman - hey if anything Cashman and his group has done real well digging through the depths to find gems. Keep going. You need to find a utility infielder, preferably someone that can play SS to put in as the 4th infielder now that DJL is starting at 2nd. Preferably a left hander. I have no name in mind but who knew about Urshela or Tauchman, etc.

9. Reshuffle your assets - the Yankees will have a lot of guys they need to protect on the 40 man roster that don't really have a spot or place in the forseeable future. That includes guys like Andujar, Frazier and Florial...but possibly even guys like German and Montgomery. Either you trade them for something that can help now (a high(er) end more proven pitcher...starter or closer like type) OR you flip them for high end prospects that don't need to be protected right now.

10. Pass on Encarnacion - they don't need him, no room at all. They'd be better off starting Frazier or Andujar at DH if they are still concerned about their defense. Add their youthful energy and better overall offensive versatility if they feel they need to.

Season's over and the injury bug is still biting this team. Hicks out 8-10 months with Tommy John Surgery.

Is it me or do we get more TJ’s to position players than other teams? We had Torres, Didi, now Hicks and I’m almost positive I’m forgetting someone too.

What is up?

Montgomery.

I wasn’t including the pitchers. I know it’s common with pitchers but we seem to have more position players requiring the surgery.

Ah. Well Tommy John has been part of this team for so long. Yankees should retire his number and give him a plaque in Monument Park.

Well I guess this means Gardy is coming back. I think Clint and Tauchman will fill in well.

Surprised it hasn't been brought up here but he's a clip of Sweeney manning the f*ck up and having a back and forth with Cashman:

Now the world sees what its like playing these Astros getting BS calls like that, you have to get thrown out right there you just have too. Yankees need to force Cole to sign with the Yankees, and the fan base should force the Steinbrenners to sign him.

 How are you going to force him to do anything. If he wants to play on the West Coast like Shohei Ohtani did, it's out of their hands.
