Who is our best defender at each position?
I know defense is supposed to be our biggest weakness. However, who would you say is our best defender at each position?

What if each player could only be put on one position? I.E. Make the Knicks all defensive team.

Best RealGM Defenders at each position are:
1 - K-Dot, easily the current best defender of Frank
2 - Green Arrow, defends DSJr's comp as Chris Paul
3 - Me for defending Ignaps Brazingis as a future Knicks legend
4 - TheBuzzardMan for defending Randle and then dismissing him and then defending him again all in the same post
5 - Capn'O, who will defend Mitch to the death

Make up a Knicks depth chart, other than C. Find the #3 guy at each position who Fiz isn't going to play. That will be your answer. Glad to be of assistance.

What's interesting about this team is that even with Bollocks hurt, the team has 6 decent defenders
Payton/Frank
Dot
Morris
Gibson
Mitch
*Bullock (probably DNP for the year)
Of course, Frank, Dot and Gibson will rarely play. Heck, Frank and Dot might not even suit up half the nights.

Re: Who is our best defender at each position?
morris, gibson, and porter were ranked near the bottom in their respected positions when it came to drpm, so it's not them.
this team doesn't have defense outside robinson and frank, but frank is useless so it's just robinson.
rj looked real solid in summer league but it's the summer league.

The OP didn't ask for the most likely best defensive line up, they asked for the best defender at each position. Those are different questions with different answers.

Re: Who is our best defender at each position?
I am not sure about Payton's defense. At times it has been good, but mostly it has been really bad. I don't know how it will look next year. I am not really expecting him to be a good defender. Frank is easily our best pg defender though.

Re: Who is our best defender at each position?
Frank is probably our best wing defender.
I don't know much about Bullock and Ellington, but one is too small, and Bullock judging by his advanced stats is awful.
So you can't play Frank at PG, because you have no-one to guard opponents wing. Morris is not the guy at this point.

Re: Who is our best defender at each position?
This would be my list of guys who could be positive defenders with some notes...
Guards
Kadeem Allen - Gives a chit defensively. Has his physical limitations but his lateral quickness is good. Limited as a switch guy.
DSJ - needs to work on consistency in effort but when he heats up a ball handler he can be a terror. Fun Fact... Dennis was in the top 30 of the league in deflections per game (2.4) for players who played in more than half of their team's games last year.
Wings
Frank - Not much needs to be said. Probably our 2nd best defender if you factor in impact and positional importance on D. Great on-ball guy but is pretty good off-ball too. As his strength continues to grow he can be a 1-4 defensive force. Think of a taller Marcus Smart with less "dog" in him...
RJ -really liked what I saw from him in SL switching onto bigger guys and finishing off plays by boxing out. Other than that he's pretty meh but he has tools so I'll leave him here for now... Not expecting much though.
Dot- I'm lower on Dotson's D than most but he is a good on ball guy and good rebounder for his size. His off ball D is very sloppy though. If he cleans that up he can be a really positive guy on that end.
Mook Morris- Has been a part of some elite Boston defensive units. very strong guy and can muscle with the bigger wings in the league. More of a 4 but can slide down and guard 3's as well.
Bigs
Mitch - Again not much needs to be said. Elite physical tools. Gets by with really bad technique because he's a 99th percentile athlete for his position. I want to see him clean up his positioning as the season goes along which will help him avoid some of the fouls he picks up banking on his athleticism to clean his technical mistakes.
Gibson - Obviously his best days are behind him but Taj will help our other guys defensively by being a veteran presence who can be a good quarterback on D. Obviously in space he will be taken advantage of but he'll be able to bang down low with some of the premier bigs in the league.

Morris might be the best defensive 3.

Re: Who is our best defender at each position?
Best individual defender at the 4 is the most difficult answer. I might pick Morris. I think Taj Gibson more as a 5/4 when most 4's are 4/3 types now, so Morris might be the best defender at 4 as well as 3. Frank's defense at becomes just a bit above average. Edge Morris there too.

He's the best defensive PG by FAR. I always thought he was more ordinary at defending the 3.
