I see a lot of Fiz bashing and I get it he’s not Red Holzman but Perry did him dirty with this roster. Too many pieces that don’t fit. Vets on short term contracts (flexibility for what? Giannis? Gtfo) who won’t hesitate to undermine Fiz if they don’t get minutes or start (assuming those weren’t guarantees). Foundational players playing out of position (RJ, Knox) because of an overcrowded frontcourt and lacking spacing/not developing because of other additions (Payton). There’s no hierarchy.

I fully support Perry’s rebuilding plan as a whole but I’m afraid he’s too much of a basketball conservative to actually build a team. I’ll give him 2 more years though, as long as he doesn’t trade picks/young players.

if he never saw him be a good defender than he didn't really watch much tape. he's not always playing great defense like his fans here will tell you, but he has had plenty of really good moments.

Might as well post the rest of what the dude said:

I thought Frank Ntilinkina could be a good defender, but I haven’t seen that. I thought he could handle the ball, but I haven’t seen that, either. The shooting, I don’t know if that will kick in. We never worried about him when we played those guys. . . .

RJ Barrett is raw. He looks like the type of guy who could get hurt. He plays in super straight lines. He’s going to get contact. He’s got to be a better shooter so he can avoid all that. . . .

They are pumping it up that Kevin Knox has added strength. I’m not seeing it. He was a below average shooter last year. . . .

Mitchell Robinson’s athletic talent and ability to finish was impressive. He was like Shawn Kemp—just get it up there and go get it. It’s really hard to handle pick-and-rolls with him two-on-two. You have to bring a third guy in to protect. Now the weak side is open and you are into rotations. . . .

Julius Randle is a really tough offensive player. And he often looks like he couldn’t give two f---s about defense. In an ideal world, if he can make some shots, he would be able to be a four. Then you have him and Robinson. If he can’t, you have to play him at the five, and that pulls Robinson out. . . .

I don’t see Dennis Smith as a point guard who is a leader. He’s a good finisher, a guy you have to keep out of transition, go under in his pick-and-rolls, force him to shoot. You let him get to the rim, he’ll kill you. . . .

They could have an all-toughness team with Marcus Morris, Taj Gibson and Bobby Portis.

some things right, some things wrong. i always say, to really know the players on a team you gotta watch a majority of their games. i know that they have sophisticated replay systems now where they can watch all of, let's say, frank defending pick n rolls or any specific thing. but how much can scouts actually watch of a regular season opponent they only face a couple times a year ? there's a game every other day. they do their best but they can't watch 30 minutes of every player on the team before they face them. there's no time for that.

Where does Frank even fit in the Pistons rotation?

They got a glut and might even have to release Khyrie Thomas. Maybe that's what they want a 2 for 1 deal or something but even then I see Frank as a 3rd stringer over there

It feels like something is happening, Detroit has been linked to him previously and with Malik/the scout coming, I feel there’s a lot of fire with the smoke.

He'll be the guy hitting 6 3's on us after we don't trade for him

You think they paid Payton 8 mil per to be a 3rd stringer?

We saw this coming and Frank at 5 mil is too expensive to keep anyway

Yeah Kennard is good. I would happily send Frank for him. He would honestly be our best guard passer too.

My only beef with Fiz is the rotations (so far).

I know he's not some mastermind X's & O's guru.

This Knicks team is built like a fantasy team. This guy will be me rebounds. This guy will get me points. Etc. They don't give a damn about fit or focusing on the kids.
