What kind of sign and trade package (Fred Van Vleet) from the Raptors would get the Knicks to part ways with Mitch Robinson?

1st rounder, Terrance Davis and taking back contacts to match salaries enough?

We have cap space - there is no incentive for the Knicks to do an S&T with an unrestricted free agent.

If the Knicks have to actually work a sign and trade for FVV instead of just signing him outright with the $40+ million in cap space they will have then thats a sign that they should pass on signing FVV lol.

The Knicks would be idiots to grossly overpay an inefficient 3rd option combo guard who can't create his own shot (which is what they'd have to be giving him to need a sign and trade).

And you want the Knicks to give up the player that has the best value on the team for the pleasure of overpaying FVV?

Well unless the Knicks actually want to give FVV a 5 year $170 million deal which is the max for FVV.

Would a sign and trade not give the Knicks an opportunity to clear contracts, so they can sign other top free agents on top of FVV?

At the same time, they get assets from the Raptors (multiple picks including a 1st, great up and coming players in Terrance Davis, etc).

Yes, it would cost them Mitch in this scenario, but your team would be competitive and talented.

there aren't any top FA in this class an nearly every high playing player on the knicks outside of Randle is a team options so we can just not pick up there option.

No way the knicks trade Mitch especially in the S&T type deal when they can just sign him outright if they really want.
BAF Spurs:

ROSTER
1. Frank Ntilikina- $170/2 years
2. Michael Porter Jr.- $61/5 years
3. Terence Davis- $2/4 years
4. Chris Boucher- $1/3 years

9 lottery picks in the 2020 draft

The Knicks don't have any bad contracts that needs to be gotten rid of (who'da thunk right?). Most of their vets have team options or super cheap buyouts for this upcoming season. The only guy with a large contract is Julius Randle and its only for this upcoming season (only $4 million is guaranteedfor 2021-2022). And $20 million for this upcoming season isn't exactly a backbreaker for the Knicks (of all teams). The Knicks should be using their financial deep pockets to absorb contracts and gain assets, not giving up assets to shed salary right now with smaller markets teams likely looking to save money by shedding salaries.

Was not aware of the cheap buyouts, just saw contracts of Ellington, Taj Gibson, etc. signed for next year.

Mitch is a heck of a player and would pair nice with FVV if you guys sign him imo.

All bad contracts are no longer here after that Unicorn deal. The only semi-bad contract maybe Randle's but still only a year left and 4M guarantee after next.
Are you fans of the team or the player?

Why it's a weak draft. No point in spending future draft capital on it.

Unless Minn or Philli are looking to sell picks then idc.

One thing I would like to know.

Would you guys do Harris, Thybulle/#20 for Randle?

Tobias Harris would be owed an average of about $36.6 million a year over the next 4 years. That's a lot of money for an offensive centric player that isn't a no.1 option and cant create shots for others. He's also 3 years older than Julius Randle just in case we are looking at timelines and windows. Randle and Harris has about the same eFG and TS%, Randle has averaged more assist per game and has a higher assist rate (which is scary) and rebounds better. Both guys are negative defenders (about the same level of negativity based on advanced stats). Harris is a better 3 point shooter but it's not such that it's worth 2 more years and $16 million more per for the next 2 years and then an additional 37 and 39 million respectively for the following 2 years is it? Also of the two (Harris and Randle), Harris would have even more overlap with a guy like RJ Barrett than Julius Randle since both Barrett and Harris have about the same build and the same ideal NBA position. I think if you want to bank that much money on a single player you might as well go with proven top tier no.1 options that can create for themselves and others or big time point guards that can make everyone else better and change cultures.

I always thought Harris was a four over a wing player and plays better at that position. He has been forced to play the 3 a lot in his career, but he easily played his best ball last season as a four in LA and for Phili. I never thought he was the answer or claimed he was a high-end player.

I just thought if we are taking on bad contracts take on the worse one in the league and get as many assets back as possible. Harris would be a much better fit in between RJ & Mitch than Randle currently just based of his 3 point shooting alone.

That would work...... I would do that but could we send Oubre to the Thunder?

Please do not sign FVV -- not even for 12M. Like the OP, I'd much prefer to develop Frank and DSJR under Thibs (and possibly get a PG in the draft like Kira Lewis). FVV won't put the Knicks "over the top" (or even close to it) and he's not good enough to be a Robin to attract a Batman the following year.

Why wouldn't the Thunder just take Oubre and #10 instead of #27 and #38?

Cause we want Oubre and the 10th pick in NY? 8-)

Seriously though, yeah, it's a reach for sure.

There are interesting players assuming we're rebuilding through trade and free agency...

Beal, Jrue, Oubre ceratainly tier 1
Grant, FVV, Conley tier 2
Bertans, Hield, Myles Turner tier 3

Then there are these long shots you might luckily get if things take a crazy turn and you should keep an eye on: Giannis, PG, Booker, Jaylen Brown
