Ooooof.

It's like the Knicks acquired T-Mac when he was a foot into retirement.

Too late for Thibs and this will only end badly.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Defense oriented basketball has no place in the NBA anymore. Just a question of whether the team or Thibs will implode first.

Why would Thibs want to deal with this mess? He’s going to go to a team ready to win that has a legit core. Also Thibs isn’t the type of guy to work well with Dolan he isn’t a yes man. I don’t see this happening.

Even though I like Thibs, I cant really see this working. Primarily because it's gonna take some time to get a roster he can truly work with.

I like it from a credibility standpoint. I said it earlier RJ and Mitch should be very happy about this.

Read on Twitter

It's been no secret that at some point before the end of the season, Leon Rose is going to become the next man tasked with guiding the Knicks to the long-awaited promised land.

"At some point" may be just a few days away.

Multiple sources tell SI.com that Rose's position as President of Basketball Operations for the Knicks will be made official either this week or next week, with a press conference likely coming soon thereafter.

Sources also confirmed that Rose was delayed in officially taking the job by his involvement in the Dwayne Wade "L3GACY" celebration this weekend in Miami, as first reported last week by Marc Berman of the New York Post. Rose, of course, is widely credited with helping bring together the "Big Three" of Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh a decade ago.

Berman noted that Rose's appointment should be official by the time the Knicks play in Miami on March 13 — which is just under three weeks from now.

But sources confirmed to SI.com that with Wade's celebration now done, there's nothing else holding up the hire, and it should become official this week.

On the coaching front, some around the Knicks also feel as if Tom Thibodeau is becoming a stronger and stronger possibility for the head coaching position currently occupied by interim coach Mike Miller. One person with knowledge of their thinking put the odds at 90 percent that Thibs will get the job, with Miller staying on in some capacity.

Miller, of course, has done nothing but an admirable job since taking over for David Fizdale. The Knicks are 15th in defensive rating since he became coach, whereas they ranked 25th at the time Fizdale was ousted.

It's unclear at this point how amenable Miller would be to staying on in a reduced role, but perhaps the title of associate head coach would help sway him. Pat Sullivan, who has been something of a defensive coordinator under Miller, is also a safe bet to be retained.

Of course, all of these decisions will be more thoroughly vetted once Leon Rose officially takes over and begins assessing matters from within. One thing to watch for when he does: Miller has been steadfast that all lineup and rotation decisions are made with input from Scott Perry. Just how much that continues or in what way those decisions are altered with Rose at the helm remains to be seen.

We won't have to wait long to find out how it all will go.

The Knicks have 26 games remaining. By all indications, Rose will have an up close and personal view of most of them before he heads into the offseason and the real work begins.

I've been against Thibs for a while, and nothing has changed

His defensive schemes were revolutionary 15 years ago, now they're not

Plus he just runs players into the ground

It's better than Mark Jackson, but he's not good.

thibs used to be my favorite coach. 5 years ago i would have been more excited. i still am a little. do i think he'll still wear players into the ground with minutes ? yes. but do i think he'll concede and play a more modern offense now ? also yes. he'll recognize he'll have to. it's a different time now than when he took the minny job. he needs it to work out as much as the knicks do.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/tom-thibodeaus-firing-a-result-of-an-old-school-coach-failing-to-adapt-to-the-new-school-nba/

Tom Thibodeau's firing a result of an old-school coach failing to adapt to the new-school NBA

Last year's Timberwolves attempted fewer 3-pointers than any team in the NBA. That's an old-school way of thinking in a new-school NBA that recognizes the 3-pointer is no gimmick.

But though this has been a modernizing team this season, these Timberwolves are far from a modern team, and that's one more reason why Sunday's firing had an air of inevitability. What ended up being Thibs' final salvo as the Timberwolves' coach was this: With the Timberwolves up 27 points and a little over three minutes remaining, the coach inexplicably left his franchise cornerstone in a game where the Lakers' coach had already emptied his bench.

Thibs has said previously he plays young players a lot of minutes because their bodies can handle it and older players he plays less. He has also historically had a ton more talent to work with than this Knicks team has, so beyond RJ and Mitch (who will great heavy run) those minutes are pretty much for grabs.

It’s a hire that could make a lot of sense for us to finally figure out a core group of players to develop and build around. This team has been dicking around forever without actually doing that.

"Team Mark Jackson is not too thrilled"

Does this mean there won't be a Gideon's Bible in every player's locker?

It's hard to say. Jackson may stand on the corner outside the Garden to hand them out.

i just can't see an authoritarian, screaming micromanager working in the modern era. he might have been good at one point but by now he's perceived as an out-of-touch retread who the younger generation will "ok boomer" right back into retirement in less than 2 seasons

Everybody wanted a roster full of 90's defenders, well now you'll get a coach geared towards that. Have at it! Frank doesn't have to do a thing to improve anymore, Knox will want out and Randle will be the biggest malcontent when he realizes he's gotta work. BUT, I could see some players thriving under Thibs like RJ/Payton/Frank/Mitch/Dotson/DSJ (that's right...Dennis puts forth effort defensively and I can see Thibs improving it. Shooting and decision making will continue to blow chunks though). Taj will be the same which will be like turning back the clock. If we can get something productive out of the draft we might be a solid .500 team next year...hooraaaayyyy.
