Watch on YouTube

RJ Hampton vs Oklahoma City in preseason if you want to see how he looks on an NBA floor at the moment.

Has made progress, but I’m not the biggest fan. We can do better.

I don’t know enough about Hampton to have an opinion.

I am not a fan of the Knicks taking RJ Hampton in the top 10. It's a reach and he needs to be developed more carefully then others. Just seems like it would not go well here.

^ I found this article on him..... it was not positive.

Some good looks. I agree with their takeaway. That's pretty much how I feel.

TAKEAWAY
Hampton is a pretty decent boom or bust candidate in my opinion. He could become a really interesting player, but I doubt New York is where it happens. While you don’t want to draft for fit in the top 10, Hampton is probably the worst fit for this roster of any guard projected in the lottery, and is unlikely to be considered the best player available even if the Knicks fall to nine. It’s hard to imagine the Knicks maximizing his value as much as a team like Washington or Charlotte, who have shooting playmakers as their lead guards, especially considering the Knicks’ anemic history of developing jump shots in their draft picks. It seems like it would be in everyone’s best interest for the Knicks to pass on the springy combo guard.

I think Wingo was talking about the player chosen not the draft position.

RJ Hampton is basically Dante Exum. Yeah great athleticism, can put up some real explosive dunks if he has a clear path to the basket and look great during practices. But not enough actual basketball skills and (more importantly) basketball moxy to do much when a game is actually gets tough. Hampton IMO is one of those guys that bought into his own hype early on and never improved a lick and he doesn't really have any serious NBA caliber basketball skills. As its, what's the worst the Knicks can be picking? 9th overall? If so, no reason for the Knicks to be selecting RJ Hampton at any point. Maybe if they trade down (no, they shouldn't) and end up with a pick in the mid-teens. Hampton is IMO not BPA at any point through picks 1 and 9 and he's most definitely not worth a 1-9 pick if you are looking to fill a need (cause he honestly and again, doesn't do anything at an NBA level that you can use him immediately for).

i don't think the knicks will take hampton and as pointed out it's not the ideal fit but if he falls out of the top 10 he's a steal for whichever team gets him. one of the few in the draft with some legit star potential

we actually could drop to 10th

if this guy is still there in the late teens I would unquestionably consider trading up from 27, I know I said I didn't want to trade up in this draft but that's an exception

Yeah, late teens would be worth a gamble but that's about it for me.

fair enough, I have lamelo cole, and hayes ahead of him at PG so the odds all of them will be off the board by our pick in the 6-10 range seem slim. if we could get one of those guys and then also trade up from 27 to get hampton that would be a great draft imo

RJ Hampton is more of an athlete than he is a basketball player. You should definitely kick the tires on him but you’re going to need to have a good development team in place and that’s something we don’t have.
