Re: WT: World Wide Wes was integral to replacing Glen Grunwald with Steve Mills in 2013
this is the kind of stuff that makes me leery about the Rose FO. CAA has had its hand in the Knicks for a while, and it hasn't been good.
that's why my preference was to go with a basketball guy as Prez. I'm afraid this FO will prioritize their previous relationship instead of being objective in identifying talent and coaches.
I mean, doesn't it seem inevitable that Thibs will be hired as HC? I hope not, I want Kenny, but based on all the reports, Thibs is the clear front-runner due to his relationship with Leon/Wes

What does anyone think of the part about Jason Kidd?

either way, at this point in time, it was WWW's prerogative to make CAA rich. he succeeded in using his influence to do so, by greasing Dolan into this move. that's what we're all praising him for, right? being able to get what he wants out of people?
good guy to have on your side. we all wanted Masai because he fleeced us in the Bargnani trade. maybe it was Wes who fleeced us all along...

Berman is weird, he usually says a lot of “could” and “potentially” when bullshiting. This was a “sources” article that might have more bite..... we have no idea who those sources could be, but still I don’t think he made this up....... someone else might have made it up and told him.

Jason Kidd in my opinion is a legit dark horse candidate for HC. He fits that “description” rose gave of what he wants in a HC, would be great to pair with a PG like Ball/Hayes/Haliburton, and unlike guys who are either trying to get rehired, or assistant coaches trying to advance their careers..... Kidd will be likely be HC for some team or another next year regardless if the Knicks hire him. In fact on the low he would be the top HC candidate next year just based on his history as a HC and how well the Lakers are doing.
He really just needs a defensive minded lead assistant coach.

CAA let their own interests overtake good team building the first time. That's absolutely the concern with agency control.

Angling for Mills is definitely a bad sign, but getting rid of a guy who traded a first for bargnani who was about to be waived is a positive.

Yeah I think it’s mills too. I think he use to leak they want to trade Frank stuff to see if there were any decent offers from teams and then would deny that the FO was interested.
This whole story sounds like Mills saying his piece of the story.

Re: WT: World Wide Wes was integral to replacing Glen Grunwald with Steve Mills in 2013
CAA put one of their clients in charge of the Knicks and found out he was an incompetent buffoon and decided to take the reigns to do it right. Or they got tired of grifting Dolan with just players and decided to get into the act for themselves.

I'm absolutely wary of them for this reason.
Not taking a stance here, just raising a potential opposite take.
What if this time, the Knicks doing well is IN their interests?
Before, the Knicks were a team to soak for contracts for it's players etc
Now, unless I mistake things, Rose is in charge of the Knicks and he's about synonymous with CAA itself. Or, maybe a better way to look at it, he knows exactly how they operate and how to work with it/around it
Eh, I can't convince myself this is a good thing
Side note: Someone wrote an article about the younger Zanin - the one the Knicks hired as scout, and how he was more interested in pushing CAA guys, or something like that. Someone posted it on here. Found it. Ah, not CAA guys, but it's possible he pushed and advocated for clients he knew, over others that were good.
https://www.si.com/nba/knicks/news/knicks-tj-zanin-scout
According to the 2015 Charlotte Hornets media guide, T.J. was a scout for the Chinese national team from 2006 to 2008, after which he became an advance scout for Team USA from 2009 to 2015, helping support three gold medal winners in the process.
In addition to getting to know some of the best players in the NBA over that time, his tenure with Team USA overlapped with several prominent figures, including Tom Thibodeau (an assistant from 2013 to 2016), Knicks head coaching candidate Pat Delaney (a former Team USA advance scout), and perhaps most interestingly, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, who overlapped Zanin's entire tenure with Team USA.
Why is Boeheim interesting? Zanin was involved in college scouting with the Nets, and their one first round pick during his tenure in Brooklyn was spent on Syracuse big man Chris McCullough. One year later, when he was director of college scouting for Charlotte, the Hornets spent their first round selection on another Orangeman, Malachi Richardson. Coincidence? Perhaps...or evidence that it's not what you know, but who you know that really matters.
Zanin's final draft pick in Charlotte was spent on Kentucky's Malik Monk, who the Hornets took over Donovan Mitchell, apparently against the wishes of then coach Steve Clifford.

I guess its a good thing he is in the pro personnel scouting department and nowhere near the college ranks anymore because those picks are god awful
