Strickland had 8 years under Coach Cal.

I don't know if that makes him specifically a great development coach, but I think he'd be a good hire.

Summary:
Perry is an idiot
Strickland might be hired for G-League development
Alan Houston will be development coach of the pro team, aka Dolan's spy.

Knicks gonna Knick, with Houston being the rat feeding Dolan info. Watch your back Thibs.

The Post has reported assistant to the GM Allan Houston would take on more of an on-court player-developmental role and that Rod Strickland has been considered for a G-League/player development role.

Thibodeau made reference to the situation when asked his view of player development. Houston played for the Knicks when Thibodeau was the top assistant. Thibodeau was not asked specifically about Robinson’s departure.

“In some cases the player development guys are the guys you get out on the floor,’’ Thibodeau said. “If you have some older players on your roster, you tend to go with more player development guys so the younger guys can get the work they need [if they’re not playing]. But I think we’ll look at our roster. We have a very young team. We have to prioritize that.”

Perry, who was on the Zoom call, stressed player development as a part of Thibodeau’s new staff.

“Based on the conversations that we’ve had, this staff will be diverse and very strong in all areas, especially in player development,’’ Perry said.

I guess minus the GLeague, eh

At least it sounds like they are changing their thinking on this...or at least Thibs is.. Our development has been horrible.

It's another knock on Perry though, for sure.

Pros: Fiscally responsible; maintained cap space/Got Mitch with a 2nd rounder/Iggy 2nd rounder/Trier UDFA
Cons: Sucks balls at pro player scouting/Stupid ideas about development
Undecided: Who gave the go ahead to draft Knox\trade KP

Yea, i am not a fan of Perry at all just based on the last few years of GMing the knicks. Hopefully he is just keeping the seat warm for a year. Hard to say what the plan is. He is only on a one year deal, which doesn't give a lot of confidence in him.

So I've gone through the 7 stages of grief with the Thibs hire. Still think it was a bad decision, but am just hoping for the best now. At least Thibs has some level of achievement as an NBA head coach, unlike clowns such as Fisher and Fitzdale.

NY Knicks: Kobe Bryant texted Tom Thibodeau days before fatal crash

Tom Thibodeau discussed his last conversation with the late Kobe Bryant.

New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau exchanged text messages with the late Kobe Bryant only days before Bryant’s fatal helicopter accident. Kobe was seeking advice on coaching his daughter’s basketball team and was hoping to meet up with the NBA coach on his next visit to Los Angeles.

In a Q&A with the New York Post, Thibodeau recalled his last conversation with the NBA legend.

“The irony is probably about a week before, 10 days before [the helicopter crash], he had texted me, we were talking about the team he was coaching with his daughter’s team,” Thibodeau told the New York Post. “I had been going out to L.A. quite a bit to spend time with Doc [Rivers], and he asked me when I was coming out again, we were gonna get together. Really sad.”
While working as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers, Thibodeau fostered a relationship with a high-school-aged Bryant, working on his game at a nearby Saint Joseph’s gym.

In an interview from 2010, Kobe talked about how “crucial” Thibodeau was in helping him out as a young basketball player.

“He was crucial,” Bryant said via ESPN. “He was with me when I was 16 or 17 years old. Just doing drills and just working on ball-handling and just teaching me the game. He was there from Day 1.”
When you think of Kobe’s famous work ethic, it only makes sense that he would have gotten along with Coach Thibs, who is known to burn the midnight oil in preparing for opponents.

Thibodeau was introduced as the 31st coach in New York Knicks history this week. He reportedly signed a five-year contract worth over $20 million.

It's weird Perry has such strong opinions about how to build a winning culture when it's clear he has no clue how to do it.

It kinda feels like since everyone is so harsh, he didn't want the ny and national media to give the kids slander but I could be wrong either way im loving what Leon Rose is doing so far

Much needed changes being made

It's a buildup for me.

1) Why did we sign so many useless vets? Winning Culture.
2) Why not trade cap space for bad contracts and picks? Winning Culture.
3) Why did we play those vets instead of tanking? Winning Culture.
4) Why not use G-League? Winning culture

At some point, you have to conclude...he doesn't know how to build it.

I have more questions about what we're discussing.

Is Perry really an idiot? Or is he a guy with some, but not all, the skills needed to make player personnel decisions?

What role did Perry have in the KP trade? How much of this was Mills?

We all hated on THJr, and thought that getting rid of KP was not so bad because we unloaded THJr. But he has been valuable in a role as a shooter, with decent shot %. Did anybody in management know his actual ability, or were they just trying to appease fans?

Hiring a bunch of vets seemed like hedging our bets - maybe we could win with them (ahem) or maybe they'd help the kids. How would the kids have developed if they played more?

Perry seemed all in on Fiz. Fiz did not do it. Clearly, Miller, who is a "decent" if not good coach, improved the team almost overnight. Why did Perry like Fiz so much? (OK, Fiz is a really nice guy. But I don't see he did a good job coaching.)

We are hiring a lot of really top level talent. Now people are mentioning Alan Houston. Yeah, Houston has been here a while and works for Dolan. Is being a spy all he is really good for, or does he actually have talent for developing young players? I see Rose as being strong enough that he would try to marginalize Houston if he doesn't believe he is capable of doing a good job, even if he has to keep him on board.

Dolan is someone we all hate, with good reason. He did something Trump did - he made his work his personal fiefdom, and seemed to give out jobs to cronies no matter how badly they performed. But he seems to get that he has ruined the team, and he did do the right thing with the Rangers. Is it possible he really wanted a strong leader (Rose) to make the Knicks better, and he plans to sit back and enjoy the show?

Rose has said very little. Everybody before him said too much. Nothing before panned out. Now Rose, a fairly taciturn guy, seems to be creating a leadership team in his own mold. Whether he's doing a good job or not, I think it is essential that he forms a team to support what he is doing - a strong, capable, and effective team. If his vision for the team is not really outstanding, he will fail. But he can't win without this team. Having one person on the team to sabotage it would ruin whatever he can do - so I don't think Dolan wants to do that. If he's getting reports from Houston on what Leon is doing, well, that's Dolan, but it doesn't mean it will ruin things.

We fans have very strong opinions on what is right. We have, I'm sad to say, been all over the place. "Phil is a savior. Yay KP!" "Phil is crazy, dump, Dolan needs to fire him..." "Tank forever" "Tank but develop a winning team by developing the kids" "The kids suck" etc. etc.

Maybe there's a reason a guy like Rose has made a good career in the NBA. He may not satisfy what we're looking for. He was NOT my first choice. But there are more ways to build the team than just tanking. If he's good, he'll succeed. If he's only ok, we'll be mediocre and in need of new leadership. I find it hard to believe he could do worse than what we've had.

Remember, how fast can a swimmer go with a Mills-stone around his neck?
