Loving these NBA podcasts, mainly talks MJ.
34:00 - 3 qualities he's looking for in a player
35:30 - Starts talking about Marbury
38:38 - Why AI was different from Marbury

AI is my favorite player on a personal level. Loved how he grew as a man.

Honestly, Marbury was complicated. Don't want to erase everything he did, but it also seems obvious now that he had some mental issues to overcome. Still remember him donating a lot to Katrina victims and crying, if I remember correctly.

I have no problem with Marbury. It's obvious that he had some mental health issues and played during a time where there was stigma around it. There still is, but with more players coming out now speaking out about mental health, you have to wonder how he'd fare during these times.
I'm glad he found peace out in China and he's doing his thing.

Proof that the league knew before hand where Kobe was going to end up playing.

Getting buddy buddy with your coach to where your neighbors and hooking up with underlings is never good for business when you're a Knick.
Larry Brown did Steph no favors either.
Marbury's heart was always in the right place he did a lot with a little. The Garden was a damn circus at the time, but hopefully this changes with the new staff /coach....

Who wouldn't have mental issues with those Knicks?

There was also the affordable shoes thing. Probably something he believed in.

Marbury, while not completely blameless, would've thrived in New York if we had a competent organization. But we had Zeke and Dolan and a turnstile of coaches like Larry Brown who had totally different agendas apart from winning and developing players.

brown challenged marbury and marbury wasn't up for the challenge.
remember when brown got flack for not starting crawful and saying he's better off the bench? post knicks crawful played the rest of his career coming off the bench.

nah.
marbury wore out his welcome in ny just like he did in minny, nj, and phoenix ... knicks could've had an amazing front office and marbury still would've found a way to isolate himself from the team.

Marbury seems like a very different person today than he did when he was younger. He did seem like a difficult personality until that change came.

He's one of those guys you feel better about based on what they did with their lives after you crossed paths with them.
I just wish he'd done a better job of using his Chinese connections to suppress Covid-19

Jamal crawford has played 20 years in the nba which only a handful of players have managed to do , you just embarrass yourself when you refer to him like that.

the season after playing for the knicks/warriors he went on to play 730 more nba games, only starting 40 of them.
the only person that embarrassed themselves is you.

It was a shame that many people overlook the fact that Marbury took the Knicks to the playoffs and put up decent numbers during the 2004-05 season. He probably could have carried the Knicks to the playoffs in 2008-09 had Mike D’antoni not socially distanced himself from him.

Marbury's best teammate was Eddy Curry. Let me repeat, Marbury's best teammate was Eddy Curry.
OBVIOUSLY Marbury wasn't perfect. He didn't trust his lesser teammates. He was impatient with their mistakes. He wasn't able to make crap players better. Instead of staying low key and let Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas take each other out, he decided to get involved (which honestly was his biggest mistake). If it's dubious that you can win with a player like Marbury on your team, it's crystal clear that you can't win with just Marbury and a bunch of crap. And crap was pretty much what Marbury had for most of his time in NY.

maybe you aren't bright enough to be embarrassed.
