RJ is shooting 36 percent from 3, which is pretty solid. But people still dog his shooting. Meanwhile, Ja Morant is being hyped as a no doubt franchise player. Yet he is shooting an abysmal 24.5 percent from 3. Yikes.

B/C it isn't super aesthetic. No 40 foot 3's. No crazy handle. Not flying in and dunking on everyone. No insane passes.

Just old school competency.

However, I think we're starting to see him finish a lot of those prettier moves that he was missing before IE twisting and contorting his body during the 2 steps to get an angle for a nice soft finish. And a lot of us have appreciated his ability to set up others, especially on the lobs or the slings to the corner 3.

I could care less if it's pretty if the NBA can't stop it

Any Knick who gets highlight plays is bound to become a bust.

Unexciting is the Knicks way and that's fine.

Reed, Frazier, King, Ewing, Melo, Randle, RJ... None of them will ever be accused of jumping out the gym.

To be fair, "leading" is a bit of a stretch

He's been a solid #2 on a .500 team, which is a big step from last year, but if we didn't have Randle, we'd be nowhere near the playoffs with RJ as the #1.
BAF Lakers:

Darius Garland/Tre Jones
Killian Hayes/Avery Bradley
Keldon Johnson/Cam Johnson
Saddiq Bey/Darius Bazley
Onyeka Okongwu/Bol Bol

Two months later, and JA is without question a less efficient scorer that can't shoot and isn't half the defender that Rowan is.

23% from three, and you criticized RJ for his inability to shoot, he looks like Joe Harris next to JA.

I’m just guessing that RJ’s the kind of player Thibs love. Not much flare and flash but produces quality minutes and outwork his contemporaries. On the same vein, there was a recent news/tweet that Thibs want to have Frank on this team. While Frank has some consistency issues, he’s another one whose game is not highlight reel material but hustle on one thing Thibs value the most, defense.

Ja Morant has spiralled back to Earth this season.

Good article in the Ringer about RJ. One thing they note is that RJ gets way less touches than Zion and Ja, and that we should be using him more as a playmaker. But, I've liked how Thibs has been using him now. Next year is when RJ will really break out.

Good piece of writing here, I lol’d:

In that way, Barrett represents the unexpected quandary in which New York finds itself. A rebuilding team with the league’s lowest payroll that is in line to have more than $40 million in cap space this offseason and controls nine first-round picks in the next seven drafts should probably take the long view when it comes to player development and expanding the skill sets of the young talent likely to stick around for the long haul. A team that’s in seventh place, that has what’s looking like at least a coin-flip chance of making the play-in tournament, and that is coached by someone for whom “the long view” amounts to “looking to the end of the bench to see if he can find any other former Bulls, perhaps Keith Bogans, to sub in” will likely have different priorities, though.
Bwahahaha!

Jesus what happened to Ja this season. It looked like he was about to tear up the league in the first 2 games. Now he is playing terribly. His poor shooting is really a negative.

Something about Ja's attitude bothers me for some reason. I just don't trust him. Maybe it's the lasting image of him taking plays off and not playing any defense in the tournament for Murray State, I don't know. I just trust RJ more.

I think Morant is more Steve Francis than Allen Iverson or Chris Paul, even though he's had a massive impact on the Grizzlies resurgence.

I foresee RJ steadily trending upwards, and Ja slowly but surely trending downwards as the years go by.

The only unusual athlete on the two championship Knicks teams was Earl the Pearl who had an unreal handle and sometimes made circus shots. But those teams were largely great because of the sum, not the parts. And that includes Clyde, my fav player of all time.

They were a sturdy, hard-working bunch that played great team defense and made that extra pass to find the right shot. That's why they were great. I have never seen a group of guys who lived up to the concept of teamwork better than those Knicks.

Both times they won the chip they beat Lakers teams you could say had more legendary individual talents. In 1970, that's Wilt, Baylor and West. I mean holy crap they were great players. But that was a thriller and went to 7 games. By 1973, Wilt was retiring, Baylor was gone. They had Gail Goodrich who was a flamethrower, but that second series was easy by comparison.

Anyway, RJ fits in that tradition. And I think Randle probably does too now. I like these guys. And they're learning to play off of each other now. Put them together with a competent PG and we've got something.

And they probably can each do more in terms of broad skill sets than even Bradley and Debusschre did really. Dollar Bill was efficient, but RJ has a more complex game. And Randle can bang like Dave did, but he's a more skilled offensive player.

That's why you need teamwork. Talent without teamwork still doesn't win anything. Our two guys are talented enough. Their next level will come from having a PG to play with, maturing their games and refining their teamwork.

Besides culver and reddish, the lottery of the 2019 class has been pretty good. The top 5 all have good to great chances of being stars if they not already like Zion. Then there’s other guys like herro, Washington, Rui, cam Johnson. Then some other guys in the late 1st area

Last 11 games:

21.1 ppg
52.1% fg's (15.4 fga/g)
41.7% 3pt fg's (3.3 3pa/g)
73.2% ft's (5.1 fta/g)
5.8 rpg
3.2 apg
0.6 spg
0.4 bpg

Far from a bust at this point. Even if you think the last 11 games is a small sample, he has averaged 18/6/3 on 49/43/75 shooting over the last 33 games.
