No surprise SAC got two of their starters in there. Toughest defense I’ve ever had to game plan against.

Don't

You'll just be mad when you don't end up with Indy.

that's what i've gathered, but i still refuse to look at any team rosters. just want to know who i get, though. willing to wheel and deal.

Hopefully will be a bit more active during the offseason that i have been in the latter half of the playoffs, got sucked back in the stock market lol.

Anyways like most of you want to see BAF continue past the 5 year mark and want to find ways to make this easier for Bish. I think if we can go through aspects of the game to save Bish time as well as get other to participate more we can make that happen.

One aspect of the game which I think can save Bish time and is not too difficult to implement is by posting Boxscores on a Google Shared Document. This would save Bish time by not having to copy and paste the box score, save it, then upload to a 3rd party image site, and then upload to the forum.

With a shared document Bish would just have to copy and paste the box score onto the shared document and just post the link, ie:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mldfNEB_yc_wd_JwNLEZ-zDIqsWVKzkgJn5rIr7bkcc/edit?usp=sharing

What do you guys think? I could do a step by step if required on the how to use google sheet if necessary

We would also not be limited to just using google shared sheets for just boxscores, we could create sheets for other aspects of the game as well (and would not have to worry about the third party image site going AWOL and losing info from prior years)

For year 5 free agency, I know we discussed this last year and proposals were sent in, however, I think all the free agent players being put out at the same time is just a disaster waiting to happen. It would be extremely difficult for Bish to organize all those bids and respond and update, even with 2 hour gaps set up. Having to monitor bids on a player like Giannis while also having to sift through bids for players like Austin Rivers, and possibly having bids for 200 different players sent in at the same time while looking to see if the bids are valid (especially when you include going over the cap for bird right players) makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

As much as we dont like it lists maybe the best way to go, what players to include in those lists would be a discussion and vote that likely would be required, but one way is to do list of 10-15 players (easier for Bish to monitor) by going with the highest ranked players put out first by using some website that ranks players such as https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/top-current-nba-players. With lists you would still maintain your bird rights to players, and just require you to manage your cap space if your bird right player does not come out for bid till like day 4 or 5 if your are interested in re-signing them. Another way to determine what players come out first are, have players that have bird rights attached to them put out first (so a team does not miss out on other free agents if they cannot re-sign their own guy), you could still have a list of the highest ranked bird right players (to minimize the list to 10-15 players, if Bish thinks he can monitor more players, obviously you can increase the number of players in the list).

The only negative I see with that especially sending out guys with bird rights first. Is that one of the benefits to bird rights are that you can go over the cap to sign you guys. If they are the first to go out you lose that benefit to go over the cap to bring them back.

Other than that it seems like its the only way manage such a large group of FA...as they all can't come out at once. Bish doesn't have enough man power to manage offers of all those guys during the league contract "reset". Something will have to give. Either there will be some level of "public" bidding where the league can help police the FA and timing and what is a valid offer based on the FA ratings. Or they will have to come out in groups like you say.

Pooch's idea made a lot of sense to me a year ago for Y5 but I'm not remembering the details. Stretching the FA period out was the short of it.

With the future of BaF in doubt, all teams who've stockpiled assets should be looking to potentially cash-out. Each and every team you'd think would be looking to compete in what could be the final BaF season.

Additionally, just want to throw this out there. If the league does continue, maybe instead of dealing with all the complications of the 2022 league reset, maybe it would make sense to relaunch as BaF 2.0

With GM's now having a better idea of financial ramifications to an initial auction draft, the salaries would be more responsible, the contract lengths would likely be staggered to offset another potential huge reset like we're due to embark on shortly, and with most GM's having a better handle on the SIM, team-building, the draft, etc., it may create more competitive balance.

I don't think we can go into the year with the assumption this is the last year. Then it becomes BAT and not BAF. It changes the entire dynamic of the game. The value of young players + Picks and valuable contracts go down the drain.

Whether or not we have support for the league in a year ultimately should decide if we can push through to year 6 IMO. The good thing is even though teams might not have had the best 5 year run, a majority of the league becomes FA's so plenty of room to make changes.

Obviously this is coming from the perspective of a team that it is on the up and up and resetting the league doesn't make sense from my perspective if there is enough support to just continue through. This year will play totally different, rookies this year will have zero to no value, future draft picks will 100% be worthless, trade will be compeltely altered because a guy locked up to 1 year will be the same as a guy on a 4-5 year deal currently.

Valid points here. I can definitely see and respect that angle. Me personally, I am cool either way. Just thought I'd throw what I brought up out there as a potential option. But I have no issues with continuing forward with the status quo and just making tweaks to aid Bish and lessen his load, along with making changes to the free agency period where all hell is due to break loose lol.

Yeah, I think both options (relaunch and status quo) have their positives. Thinking the interest waning among vets could be due to dissatisfaction with their squad. So I just threw it out there cuz maybe a relaunch would reinvigorate some cats who've began to lose interest.

But as previously stated, I'm cool either way. I'm committed regardless cuz despite not having deep playoff success, I'm still liking what I've done with my squad and have a good idea of how to get off this treadmill.

I think we should have 3 goals for this year.

1. Get year 5 kicked off by filling all open teams.

2. Keep interest up throughout the year (offseason usually brings a lot of excitement)

If you have 1 & 2 then the 3rd goal is to get ready for year 6 is to prep for the big FA reset. Finding a suitable solution for Bish to manage the volume of FA's. I think I have a pretty good solution to have a shared google doc where teams can just manage there own FA's. Bish then would just control the summary page where if there isn't action on a FA for say 24 hours (arbitrary number whatever the league sets it at). Then the FA is awarded to the winning bid.

The reason we can have the google docs spreadsheet is. Bish provides us with our team FA rating/tier (we just need to provide a point value to that rating/tier then there just needs to be a amount of years of the contract which is also associated with a value.

For example a Tier 1 FA team with bird rights being able to go to 5 years is the strongest offer in terms of value in the league. A team with a bad tier FA or only wanting to go to 3 years on the same player would seriously have to overbid on a yearly rate then the tier 1 team going 5 years on a FA.

Since all that is already public knowledge as long as we establish a % point value system with the FA's. We can manage our FA's by ourselves and bish just has to check in periodically when the last time stamps on the google sheet were (maybe and additional time stamp can be a thread created that is BAF FA time stamp. Where a team makes an time stamp announcement so there is no confusion when the leading bid was submitted.

I think Slice has an analytical background. And that is kinda my area of expertise building out dynamic reports. It would solve the bish workload issue because the logic behind what a player would sign with a specific team would be public knowledge if the team so chose to make the bid.

The only thing that would change with this model would be bids would be public on the spreadsheet. But to be honest I don't think that is an issue in the grand scheme. The biggest issue is unloading Bish workload to manage potentially a 100 FA's all at once. We wouldn't have to worry about any tampering. I think it would be pretty cool to have the onus on ourselves.

I can def give out some examples because its not that confusing if people wanted to hear more. I have been messing around with it for a bit now.

This is pretty cool. I don’t mind starting over with a brand new franchise

Year 6 could be a game changer for anyone. Even if you didn't have a picks going forward the advantage to your team would be you don't have any carry over $$$ going into the big FA class. While teams with young players or future picks still have to manage the cap. In theory you could be going into year 6 with over $1000 of cap while my team might be below $500...it would give you a big advantage in FA battles.

Also as we know you can easily make trades to shake up your entire team in the offseason. Smash has proven that. The retool every year he competes with essentially a new roster.

I think you will lose more interest from the team that built the teams for long term success and just say all those young players + picks you accumulated meant nothing and the teams that built to win now get the get out of jail free card to restart.

Here are two examples of this google docs spreadsheet. The name doesn't matter just put a guy on the board to showcase. This shows that San Antonio with the FA rating from last year that I assigned a value to. So San Antonio is leading the bid at 4 years $500. Dallas since he has bird rights can go to a 5th year. So this says they would need to get to a 5 year $410 offer with there top tier FA rating and adding the 5 year. If Dallas only wanted to go 4 the file would adjust to the new rating.

Above is the same example but instead it shows I put in a team with Toronto to put in a 4 year bid on this player. Because of the adjusted 5th to 4th year and the adjusted FA rating. Toronto would only need a 4 year $475 offer to beat San Antonio offer.
