He's a pretty bad defender though, right?
I don't want to be the Knick fan that turns up his nose at players.
I kind of like Collins the games I've seen him. Has hops, decent around the hoop, has a solid jumper etc.
Just not sure what it's going to cost to get him from the Hawks, and/or the fact he'll get a big contract and eat up a lot of cap space, is what the Knicks need.
A first a second and a young player is the starting ask...
Yeah that’s probably where it starts. Dal 23rd CHA 2nd Obi is prob the min.
Buzz he’s a decent rim protector & ok team defender this year next to Capella.
In an ideal world, I’d have a 9 man rotation with a 3rd big who’s at least starter level. This 3rd big would be able to play with both starting bigs. Collins more than achieves that.
We have so many needs on the perimeter, so they should focus there. But this would be great.

Kuzma and Knox to Charlotte
Frank and Payton and Detroit 2nd Rounder to LA
Graham and Bridges to NY.
Graham was really impressive last year, is getting little burn this year and is entering free agency. I think this works for everyone.
So.. Knox, Frank, Payton a 2nd for Graham and Bridges? I love how our trash gets a big haul back in return in these trade scenarios.

Intriguing Knicks response could provide Victor Oladipo, Lonzo Ball trade clue.
Thibodeau even downplayed the notion his philosophy is playoffs-or-bust.
“It’s important for us to go step-by-step and not skip over things,’’ Thibodeau said. “The whole goal this year is to build a foundation and the right type of habits. Wherever that leads us, it leads us. Our players have responded. In this league, you’re always looking for player development first, then look at the draft and free agency, then trades. You never stop working in all four areas. Every day it’s how can we make the team better. That’s where our focus lies with coaches, front office and players. We’re all tied together. We’re going to do what’s best for the Knicks.’’

Knicks won't trade Mitch and not making to make a huge move. Norman Powell is "on the radar." Maybe Olidipo. Basically looking to upgrade at the 3.

The Knicks should:
1)Sign Lonzo
2)Average 45 wins for the next two seasons
3)Get KD to opt out in 2023 and sign with them
4)Win a title in 2024

Lonzo is basically Ricky Rubio. Nice player, but if hes anything more than your 4th best player you're in trouble.
Ricky hasn't done a lot of winning in his career but hes been a consistent and probably above avg NBA player.
Am I giving 15m-max for that type of performance? no thx.
Lonzo would be nice if we already had a star next to Julius this season.

Big NO for me on that kind of player.
Knicks need someone who can create advantages for others. Those guys ideally are play finishers, good spot up guys, decent defenders and iso scorers. We have enough of that in Julius and RJ.
Think more Harden, Fox, Morant, etc. If Russ's contract wasn't so bad I actually wouldn't mind him with this kind of roster. He does a lot of what the Knicks lack.
Those two would give us a type of athleticism and speed that could transform us into a death lineup type of team. We'd have the advantage on offense at every frontcourt position and Randle is a strong enough rebounder on defense.
Quickley
Bullock/ Frank
Ant/Brown
RJ
Randle
That's how you outscore opponents.
Edit: That's basically what the Spurs are doing with Keldon Johnson at PF.

I’m not sure if I like the comparison because the main thing holding Rubio back has been his shooting, the league morphed into a 3 point shooting league, but he’s only shot 32.7% from 3 over the course of a 10 year career and only averages 2.7 attempts a game.
Lonzo doesn’t have this problem as he is shooting 38.5% on 7.8 attempts a game and his percentages have gone up every year he’s been in the league. Meaning beyond giving you what Rubio does, solid passing and defense, he can adequately spread the floor

I'm not against the player. I'm against how the Knicks will get taken in the trade.

Thibs ain’t pushing for a trade if it’s stupid but if a good one comes the Knicks will take it.
Basically the Knicks will continue on the path they are on.

Didn't get a chance to respond earlier.
All your points are good.
I actually like Collins. His defense isn't even obviously bad, to ME, though it gets mentioned pretty frequently, so I'd assume there's some truth to it.
I can't be against Collins if I was pushing for Turner - or, at least, seeing the logic in the Knicks solidifying their frontcourt rotation with a PF/C type with more offensive skills than any of their current C's or backup PF, where they could have that player in tandem with either Mitch or Randle:
Randle
Turner
Turner
Mitch
Randle
Collins
Collins
Mitch
Just, the cost of getting him would prohibit the Knicks from addressing guard/wing, unless they do it in the draft, which would mean holding on to their 2021 pick, but already the pick is probably out of the zone where it would be starting PG/wing help to the team.
But yeah, I wouldn't mind him as an addition.

Yup. And the quote is reassuring in a couple of ways - though the proof will be in the pudding.
One, it's an insight into how the team is operating.
And, if true, and they DO operate that way - and so far they have, then that kind of thing will do a lot to rehabilitate the Knicks image around the league.
I used to think it'll take years for them to overcome the negative opinion, and it might be true that they'll never do it as long as Dolan is the owner. But assuming that doesn't matter as much as we suspect it does, then I still figured it was like a 5 year path to respectability.
But everyone, and the media that drives them have such a short attention span now.
I mean, take a look at the football Browns. A laughingstock for YEARS.
They draft Baker Mayfield, make some FA signings to show they mean business and aren't complete and total idiots, a couple of decent trades etc, and suddenly, while not being touted as a model franchise, the "lol Browns" thing is basically past.
Helps when you have a player BSPN wants to market though.

Just for fun, running list of players people have mentioned being possibly available, the wishlist guys - in the context of vaguely being available, and the "knicks have interest/on the block" guys. Not sorted by group. Actually, sorted a little.
The nopes:
Drummond
Dipo
The maybes (less general support for the idea, cost, cost vs position, cap implications)
Rozier
Lonzo
Turner
Collins
The HELL YEAHS!
Powell (except that Raps POBO will assrape the Knicks in any trade here)
LaVine
Trent Jr
Talen Horton Tucker
I'm still shaking out the am cobwebs, even at 10:30. I might have missed a rumored guy. Again, names that have been brought up a lot during the season, by Knick fans, or the media.
Not a wish list at all.
