Re: Deadline done- No major Trades
Here's another thought about the remaining cap space.... if there's a player who gets bought out thar moves the needle the Knicks have more to offer in salary than anyone else ànd an easier playoff path in the East.
This might be why they didn't use it up on a marginal player.

No disagreement but I also feel like since he got us to .500, he has some house money (and trust) to play with. Nobody likes Elf and for good reason, and Thibs may not be the best talent/ingredient evaluator, but he gets to bake the cake with some leeway.

Teague is washed but he's a Thibs guy so we will probably pick him up and play him 35mpg

Re: Deadline done- No major Trades
I'm perfectly content with what this team did (or didn't do today.) What exactly is everyone's expectations for this team this year? At best they'll be a bottom seeded team- more than likely a play-in team due to how difficult the remainder of our schedule is. I absolutely wouldn't mind us missing the playoffs and having another crack at the lottery since this draft class is stacked in the top 10.
I wanted Lonzo like most, I've been an advocate of his since he was in UCLA but the way this team is structured now, we can walk into this FA with around 60 million in cap space. We can introduce a contract structured where he receives an annual salary of 20 million per but start with the 1st year at around 25 with it scaling down for the last few years. This will essentially act as a 1st year poison pill for the Pels and make it exponentially more difficult for them to match. It will also make his contract very enticing down the road if he doesn't pan out here. Best of all, we didn't have to trade a 1st round pick plus a young player which was seemingly what Griffin wanted in order to trade for Lonzo.
I like this team's identity because they usually play hard every night and they bring it on the defensive end, but let's be realistic; we're a relatively deep team but we're devoid of top talent outside of Randle and in this league you can only go so far with just one star level guy (don't think Randle is a #1 option on a championship team but could be a great Robin given his unbelievable evolution.)
We're all guilty of the shiny new toy syndrome but I don't think anyone expected us to be at .500 this late in the year. We're playing with house money now- we'll have an unreal amount of cap space moving forward, we have all our draft capital intact and we still have all our young guys here. There wasn't a move to be made today that would've pushed the needle for us to the point that we could truly compete. I don't mind just enjoying the ride and see how this team does for the remainder of the year.

True, you have to take the good and the bad with Thibs. Overall he's cooking a good dinner but maybe the bread is moldy

Does Fournier move the needle on this team? Think about it...
i think he makes the knicks a threat. not necessarily for contention. but the knicks have been pretty close against some of the better teams out there.
imagine a fully healthy knicks, then with a reliable shooter/scorer.
not top 3 in the east. but makes those top 3 teams at least plan for knicks.
I'll remember the Evan Fournier hate when we have to watch Burks blow 3 fast break layups tonight.
Or whoever backfills Burks because Burks is playing instead of Bullocks, sucks ass tonight.
Yes, Knicks are so overflowing with guard/wing talent that they have no need for Fournier for a shot a the playoffs.
Then again, I want the Knicks to fall into the lottery, so I can't be mad with the Leon Rose/Brock Aller Amateur Hour we just witnessed today.

More like from putting in hardwood flooring all day.
I don't need to obsessively hit F5 all day to see if the Knick made a trade or not. I can read about it in 5 minutes in the evening.

Damn, just a few months ago yall were talking about Randle/Mitch and and1ing each other. I warned Sham that the need for spacing would eventually put the target on Mitch back, now you in a parking lot of a sandwich shop speaking to RealGM reporters telling the Knicks to ship Mitch ass out

Re: Deadline done- No major Trades
Feels like a play by Drummond's agent to get the Lakers or Nets to cough up a couple of extra millions.
Knicks make zero sense, before the trade deadline, especially after.
Then again, the Knicks can sign Drummond and then I'll know for certain this FO doesn't really know what it's doing, because you'd need no further proof.
