Brunson or Ball

Post#1 » by snadler » Fri Apr 9, 2021 7:58 pm

We know Ball is a better player, but would you rather pay Brunson about 10-12 mil per or ball 20 plus million a year? They are both RFA that will probably both hit the open market

Windhorst reported that Dallas views Brunson as untouchable (try not to spit out your water) so we can lock this thread.

I saw that. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, Lonzo will be the better player and we need better players.

Leon Rose’s godson cannot be happy with the prospect of playing behind Luka for his entire career.

Good point. Be a backup to Luka in Dallas or start at PG for the New York Knicks at MSG?

But can't Dallas just match any offer since he's a restricted free agent?

Brunson hasn't shown hes special at doing anything. Hes playing nearly 26 minutes a game. Lonzo is a much better distributor and got a lot more upside.

he's an UFA with the way they set up his contract so they have no say where he eventually goes after next year. Brunson decides and they can only offer him a modest extension I think around 10 MM which no way in hell he takes.

Yep. And he can tell them he’ll walk next year

He’s elite at the rim, a better shooter than Lonzo and can actually penetrate. Lonzo isn’t even a true point guard.

Brunson won't be a free agent until after the 2022 season, he has a team option that they will no doubt pick up this summer. Does anyone here really want to see another year of Payton as PG?

I would trade the mavs 2023 1st for him...gives Dallas back all there control of there picks to trade for someone else to pair with Luka.

I wouldn't give them that pick, high schoolers might be back for that draft, which makes it a double draft.

its top 10 protected and they have Luka...its not going to be in the top 20. To get Brunson on his small cap hold with then with the agreement to sign him to a long term deal. If the Knicks actually cared about developing young players I might think differently but the picks will be used to get established players. Getting a young starting PG that fits thibs system is the best we can do IMO.

brunson is a solid backup PG. Give me Lonzo over him. Lonzo got more upside and can guard multiple positions. Brunson is limited as a defender

That's not Luka that's Carlisle. The only people Luka make good are folks who can't create for themselves at all like rim runners and spot up shooters

100%. Lonzo is the better player and has a much higher upside long term. Pay the difference IMO.
