This is false. We can still finish 7th which is play-in not playoffs, and be eliminated from the play-in.

damn never mind then. not sure why they would tweet that. they got me.

Yeah. We lock in 6 seed in two scenarios:
1) We win 2 of our last 4 games
2) We win 1 of our last 4 games AND Boston loses 1 more game out of their last 4.

Our last game against Boston can be monumental. I hope we win two of our next 3 (LAL, SAS, CHA) instead of it coming down to the last one (BOS).

Yeah, I mean we need a fairly monumental collapse to end up 7. I get that we don't want to jinx it, but the way Thibs has these guys locked in, seems far more likely we're still in a dogfight with Atlanta for homecourt.

Personally, I think it's a coin flip as to which scenario is best for the Knicks -- 1st round series win vs. Atlanta or 1st round series ALMOST win vs. the Nets. Either scenario would be epically huge for the franchise.

I edited my response to add, we can also play against Miami in 1st round as 4 vs 5. (missing from your scenarios)

I'm rooting for Atlanta. Especially coming off 4 cupcake games to finish the season, they'll be soft.

Technically it is unlikely, we have vegas odds of 2% for 7th seed.

I saw people correcting them in response to the tweet though.

The Miami/Boston game is huge.
Miami wins and we lock in 6th with only one more win.
Boston wins and really helps our odds of being 4 or 5 vs Atlanta but also keeping alive the chance we fall to 7.

Feels like I must root for Boston to win but having 6th locked in would feel nice if they don't.

Every time I see this thread, I think it says "Magic to lock up #4 seed" and I feel bad for a minute. LOL

Then I remember who they are, and I realize I misread it.

Magic number is 2 right? Any combination of NY wins and Boston Losses. BTW, I dont think Boston is losing to the Heat Tuesday so we need to follow through.

Whoa. What’s up w/Kemba?

I like Jaylen but can’t say i feel too bad for Ainge or the average fan from Boston.

Watch them lose the play-in and end up with a top 3 pick.

I really don’t understand this magic number stuff.

Right now there’s a 98% chance of making at least the 6 seed. We’d literally have to lose 5 in a row to miss the playoffs.

The only real question (no jinx) is whether we finish 4th, 5th, or 6th.

Yes. If the Knicks win two games they lock up 6th no matter what any other team does.

That will lock us in the 6th position not having to partake in the play in tournament. But the real number is 4 to lock in the fourth seed and home court for the first round!

Hell we could lose 4 of 5, as long as we beat boston, we'd be in. Im done looking at 6, aiming for 4 or 5 at the mome

The Heat have the Celtics, Sixers and Bucs ahead. I don't think they catch us. But if the Wiz cannot take the next one from the Hawks, the Hawks will likely win out which means we need to go 3-1 to keep 4th seed.

I did not expect the Jaylon Brown news, now I'm just focused on the 4th seed. :D

So if we lose tonight and Miami wins, there will be a 3-way tie record-wise between NY, ATL, and Mia.

Anyone know how the tiebreakers fare?

The division winner gets the tiebreaker in a 3-way tie

If we tie with Miami and Atlanta, the winner of the Southeast division gets the tiebreak.

So if Miami wins the division, we're 5th, because we have the H2H tiebreak against ATL.

If Atlanta wins the division, we fall to 6th.
