We wouldn't have had to make a desperation signing of Julius Randle... It's possible we would have been able to be put together a top team in the East around Donovan.
But this is the Knicks, so Donovan probably would've been riding the pine so Mudiay could get minutes lol... Doomed franchise.

it doesn't work like that.
they don't draft haliburton if they have mitchell
they don't draft rj if they have porter jr.

I’ll still rock with obi tbh
But if u have number 3 pick in 19 draft. I’m still taking RJ whether i have mpj or not
Different skill sets

Realistically it would be something like this. Don’t think we would’ve been bad enough for RJ with SGA and Donovan Mitchell so I put Hachimura there who’s been pretty good too
SGA
D-Mitch
Hachimura
Randle
Mitch

Too many permutations. We would have had totally different players, but we need to draft better going forward because those are valuable assets wasted.

We would be saying Donovan Mitchell is a slightly better THJ chucker or SGA is a third option on a good team and we need to trade them for MOAR picks.

realistically, we arent bad enough to get the number 3 pick in the draft if we get those guys

Steve Mills would probably still be in charge

If we didn't draft Frank, we would've taken DSJ or Malik Monk
I also don't think we'd have taken MPJ, much more likely Miles or Mikal Bridges. Outside shot we take SGA
Depending on who was making the decisions at the time. You have to go back to how people looked at them as prospects, not using hindsight knowing how the guys that we passed on turned out. It's a similar situation to why I don't blame the Cavs for not taking Giannis 1st in 2013 (cause that would not have been a realistic pick, no matter who was in charge), but you can blame Minny for picking Shabazz Muhammed one pick ahead of him
But going off the premise of this thread, if we take D Mitch, we're not picking in the top 10 (even assuming KP still gets injured), and likely he's enough to carry us to the playoffs the rest of the way. So good news we can't pick Knox, but at the same time, we pick too far back to take MPJ or SGA. And we're certainly not bad enough to draft RJ in 2019, again likely we make the playoffs with D Mitch, or at least come close. This also might change KP's mind, make him want to stay, so we either bring him back, or trade him for a different package (remember, we traded him to Dallas without shopping him around, so we might have gotten a better deal) so good odds no Randle, no Morris (and no Quick trade), and maybe even no Thibs
Roster probably looks more like
Some PG (too many variables to determine)
D Mitch
THJ
KP
Mitch Rob (assuming no injury)

if we never drafted Frank or Knox we'd be the same team we are today, since neither of them plays.
Of course we'd be missing our defensive stopper who plays 0.9 seconds every tenth game.

Fizdale would've ruined whoever else and/or we would've traded the rookies if they did turn out to be good

Revisionist history, nobody was asking for us to draft DM, everybody wanted DSJ. All of a sudden, everyone wanted Mitchell now.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. I thought people at the time wanted DSjr.

Phil Jackson was rumored to be interested in Mitchell, that was being reported on the radio before the draft. Since Phil was fired soon after the pick its safe to assume he still would have been fired. I agree with the remaining points.

We'd have drafted Dennis Smith and Jerome Robinson.

We would’ve taken Smith or Monk. Mills was the next man up and those were his guys.

Mitchell was high on our radar, but Phil Jackson ultimately decided Frank was a better fit for the triangle
