MSG Network vs Comcast - CT/NJ Knicks Fans

Post#1 » by SmoothLefty21 » Sun Oct 3, 2021 2:21 pm

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/01/comcast-drops-rangers-knicks-games-after-saying-almost-no-one-watches-them.html

I didn't catch this news yesterday. This sounds a little uglier than typical battles of this kind where terms are reached after a week or so, though these beefs always happen right before a season starts.

As a CT resident with Comcast, this is very disappointing. I don't want to deal with the hassle of finding streams, etc. I wish MSG would get their head out of their arse and offer their own streaming option nationwide or join YTV.

Yeah I’m affected as well, I live in Jersey. Gonna stream games from a friends optimum subscription. Either way this is ridiculous.

My family ditched Comcast once Fios came into town - so this doesn't impact me. Comcast's slimy though

Depending on how much you love the Comcast selection of TV channels, there is a way around this.

I dropped the entire Cable TV service and get only the internet. Then I have a monthly subscription to DirecTV Stream. It has full Knicks, Rangers, Yankees, and Brooklyn basketball. It used to be a lot cheaper, but now it's getting close in price.

Decided which premium services to purchase, their relative cost, etc. also figures in, but I think I'm still saving over 30% this way. Their service has been reliable, their DVR is poor, but otherwise it's a lot like having cable.

If FIOS is available, it also carries MSG and YES, but it's more expensive than the streaming alternative. Their DVR is better, tho.

MSG is screwing customers for the past few years. I ditched cable and pretty much my only option to watch MSG is going with ATT tv which is ridiculously expensive. Msg can easily sell direct access and I would gladly pay for it. I ain’t paying $100+ just to have MSG. I will stick with sling and catch the Knicks on ESPN/TNT whenever they are on.

Honestly, if only the Yankees and Knicks would sell me a direct subscription to their channels - and not force me to subscribe to cable.
I'd rather give them $12 a month each than have to pay for a bunch of channels that I will never watch.

These spats with the cable companies are always pathetic, but if you want a similar service to YouTube TV that has MSG, give fubo a shot. I only tested it out, but it was reliable and the UI was surprisingly decent.

FUBU is about $65 a month. I'm already paying $160 for cable and internet. This sucks.

Maybe the “team pass” is worth it. $120 for the year https://watch.nba.com/packages

Well fubo would replace your cable.

I considered it but then you have to figure that if you live in the region they will blackout all knicks home games and best case scenario they still black out every nationally televised game which there are 12 I think and then they don't show the playoffs. Personally I think it's a ripoff

I've been dealing with this issue for a long time in northeast PA. There's basically no legitimate way to pay to watch the Knicks. MSG has had this battle with virtually every satellite/cable company in this area and League Pass blacks out all Knicks, Nets and Sixer games. For 2 years I've had to use terrible streams that freeze or get shut down.

This year, I'm gonna get a VPN and the one team pass. That seems to be the only way to do it

I wonder how much MSG networks ask for versus other regional sports channels like YES and SNY.

Return to New York Knicks
