not sure Nurkic or Wood get us where we need to go and Thibs values rim protection with his bigs.

I’d maybe consider it with the Mavs pick, it won’t be very good and then it depends on the player
so you are thinking something like Obi + DAL pick + salary filler.
My only issue with that is then you have absolutely no ammo to trade for a star. All our extra assets are gone. We only have our 1st round picks to deal for a "star".

I fear Thibs is demanding a shot-blocker specialist too.
But Nurkic averaged 1.4 blocks a couple of seasons ago before he had his leg broken. I don't know if his blocks number dropped because he lost athleticism or due strategy/line-ups changes.

Yeah I’m just fine keeping Mitch if that’s the price for Turner. And I just watched Wood get abused by Marvin Bagley the other night…

I think Portland has the worst defensive rating in the NBA. Not sure I want to poach anyone away from them who is manning there interior defense.

We do not know the price for Mitch and we can not be sure he will be back next year. He is UFA. He can sign with any team and we will get nothing in return. He probably can get MLE money from a contender or a really good deal from a cap space team like Detroit/Spurs.
mpharris36 wrote:so Jalen Brunson for Mitch
and Obi/Noel/Dal Pick for Myles Turner
is that what I'm gathering from these talking points?

I think just Mitch is too little for Dallas... Besides, Dallas needs a promise from Mitch that he will extend for a reasonable contract or take the risk.

I mean technically they are in the exact same position with Brunson...he can leave and they have no control over it.

Yes. But they want to trade Brunson to avoid this situation. Besides Brunson: a) is more valuable than Mitch (more consistent, durable and he is a PG, not a rin runner Center); b) he is worth a 15M+/y contract, which makes his bird's rights more valuable. You do not have to overpay him to avoid him taking the MLE from another team. I dont think he would refuse a 64/4 contract to take a MLE from another team and I dont know if any team would have the cap space to offer him a better contract.
