How big will this get? Will we be looking at a world war here?

To have a world war we should look back to the past, 1930s, when USA was a "neutral state".

While Biden is giving Putin a pass to invade Ukraine, will he blink an eye if PRC attacks Taiwan?

That's what I'm wondering as well.

Afghanistan.
Ukraine.

Xi has to be eyeing Tawain here and probably Japan as well.

For Taiwan, Wall Street may have a say on protecting them due to Taiwan SemiConductor is shaping today's IT infrastructure, but maybe that's it. If Wall street says nothing then Taiwan is over.

Then North Korea may think it is time to have a unified Korea as well.

And if still no resistance, the next would probably be Poland or Baltic countries.

Yeah, I've been having this chat with family and they think Russia won't try to take Poland or Romania after Ukraine becuase they are in NATO. Wars start because treaties are broken. And I honestly see the west turning a blind eye if that were to happen.

I think Biden's biggest mistake was that he overtly told everyone he wasn't attacking, but to be honest, I don't know if the States could go to war over Ukraine. The 1930s is not a good parallel because both Russia and America have nukes. The main thing Biden has to do now is get NATO and the EU aligned in terms of a response, which is getting harder and harder because Russia is actively interfering in other countries' politics and economics. Kinda sucks to say, because I blame Putin a lot for getting Trump elected and I want him punished for it, but I don't know if this warrants a huge war.

Sorry but what would you think if Trump was re-elected, or if there was no Trump from the beginning (like Hilary Clinton then Biden as president), will this invasion still happen?

I should probably clarify — we’re already at war with Russia. Should have been super clear when they interfered with the election and how they’ve been able to use their resources to try and raise tensions within NATO.

As for China, I’m hella worried too. I wouldn’t call Biden a Chamberlain though.

I read a news report that China isn’t really happy about all this as it puts it in between Russia and the U.S. which it isn’t looking to have problems with.

Nope. The main reason was that Trump was doing Putin’s job. He was destroying US alliances and institutions and threatening to leave NATO. That, to me, is the worst outcome. The US cannot do anything without allies. I think part of the reason Putin is going now is that Ukraine was trying to join NATO, and Putin couldn’t have more of those countries on his doorstep. That and the fact that Ukraine is a relatively new country.

I also think that for all his bluster, Trump was pretty damn weak on China and Hong Kong. The other thing about Trump is that it felt like he didn’t appreciate tech enough.

I think Hillary would have been better cause she’s sorta hawkish but she had her own issues obviously. But one thing about her is that I’m pretty confident that she had a good plan for tech and where the world was going. She was the one person China did not want elected.

This boards fascination with Trump is going to lock any non-bball thread we have.

I said my piece.

It's the whole country that is obsessed with the recent past.

I would prefer to talk about the future as well. Let the novelists to think about the "if world".

And we will witness the power of Biden's prayers, hopefully God can send those Russian troops back to Kremlin, or hell Siberia.

I don't think so. I don't think Putin will pull up right to Poland. The repercussions would be too great. Also, China is not crazy about this maneuver. It puts China between the U.S. and Russia. China is more concerned about its own economy, not Russian expansion in Ukraine which only serves to satisfy Putin's ego.

"Toe to toe"? What does that even mean?

If Putin was smart, he would take the annexations of those two areas in east Ukraine and call it a day. But he's too delusional with power. I also read an article about Putin's "strange" behavior during the pandemic where he basically went into self-isolation.

Re-uniting the former Soviet Union has always been an ambition of Putin's as an ex-KGB member of the former regime.
