Mitchell Robinson Free Agency/Replacement

Post#1 » by NYG » Sun Mar 6, 2022 8:09 pm

1. At what salary amount would the Knicks back out on re-signing Mitchell Robinson?

2. If we lost him in free agency, who are some realistic options to replace him with either via trade or free agency?

Knicks never should have gotten to the point where Mitch can become unrestricted.
$13mil a season should beat any offer.

one replacement that jumps to mind is Jalen Smith. I would look to sign Jalen Smith even with Mitch on board.

Would you give up the Mavs 1st to land a guy like Jaxson Hayes?

I think Mitch should get out whilst he can. Whether that be by signing somewhere (even Detroit) or by sign and trade.

I think teams may pay 15m. I don't see the current Knicks head coach and front office as being able to make good use of Mitch. Why not just use Obi for the tip off jump?

I wouldn't want to give up a first. Mitch is the more dominant player/ the better player. I believe if Dalla had Mitch they wouldn't want to trade him for Hayes.

however, if Mitch does become unrestricted, we would be lucky to walk away with a player like Hayes.

If we lose Mitch for nothing we need to throw the entire FO away. and then draft Chet Holmgren.

Trade for each other if PHX wants to save $?

I’m a Mitch fanatic but Ayton as a partner long term for RJ has a lot of appeal

Isaiah Hartenstein? I know its very unsexy but might be the best option without losing assets

At what price? Dude thinks he deserves the max...but he's more of a second tier center. And Mitch shat :D on him last week

Losing Mitch for nothing would be another example of this franchise's ineptitude.

The NBA is all about finding windows of opportunity and pouncing at the right time. It's what the Knicks should've done for Lavine when Boylen was still the Bulls' head coach, and for Haliburton when he was made available by the Kings.

The Knicks slept or overvalued their assets (probably the latter), and they got to keep the pile of mediocrity they've been sitting on for the past 3 years instead.

The window of opportunity here is Robert Sarver being cheap.

So the best case scenario is you can upgrade from Mitch to Ayton via S&T in the offseason (Mitch, veterans on expiring contracts, maybe a pick). The second best case scenario is you resign Mitch to a reasonable contract extension. Maybe vice versa depending on the numbers for each player.

Is Holmes in Sacramento available? I’d take a look at him

Wouldn’t be shocked if we end with Miles Turner though

Yeah I don't know how we can ever replace Mitchillikina and his 8 and 8 production. We should have traded him, for a 2nd round pick at least but we didn't oh well he can walk for free its still better than paying him. He's not good and I don't even know why the Suns would want him when they have two backups with better production

So not wanting to give Ayton the max is being cheap? Teams get the "opportunity" to overspend on Ayton? Ayton is a good center but he's not that good and does he really fit on the Knicks? Does he fit our needs. Does he work with RJ and Julius?

In my opinion signing Mitch to 15 million or less a year contract is the better option.

Ayton just dropped 30 and 8 against the bucks. there’s plenty of upside with him. if he was in the east he’s likely an all star.
