Jalen Brunson obsession

I was wondering if someone can explain to me our obsession with Jalen Brunson. Bruson is a good PG but is he that good that he takes us to the promised land? I'm starting to feel like we are setting ourselves up to overpay another 2nd or 3rd option. Jaden Ivey on the other hand seems like a cornerstone piece to build around. Shouldn't our goal be to get him at all costs.

Easy.
1. We haven't had a good "real" PG in years and years.
2. Brunson is a UFA this summer, so either we could just sign him, or do a sign-and-trade with the MavKnicks.
3. Brunson's Dad was a Knick
4. He likes NYC
5. He's a decent PG but doesn't seem great — so if we have to trade the team to get him, we won't be better. If we could sign him cheap, then probably the MavKnicks could also sign him cheap. If we sign him for $20M/year, we're capped out and can't really get better.
McBride has been awesome on D, but his shooting only works in the G league. Can he run the team on offense? We still don't know. So many moving parts, it's hard to know what to do about Jalen Brunson.

So in the grand scheme of things how many more wins does Brunson get us? I'll go crazy and say we get 50 wins. How deep in the playoffs can this team go? Just seems like a quick fix to maintain treadmill status. Not a long term answer.

Beggers can't be choosers and we are desperate for a legit PG.

I have to agree. Brunson is a small non defensive point guard coming off a good year playing off of Doncic.
if we keep thibs, Brogdon is the answer.
if we fire thibs, play Deuce--- I wouldn't be surprised if he failed b/c it's the nba-- but I wouldn't be surprised if he succeeded b/c I like everything about him. We're not winning a Chip next year anyway.

He’s not that good at all. Average PG (that doesn’t even have to play PG for them really).

In other words: Charlie Ward.

Everyone keeps looking for THE ONE DEaL that will put us in the finals. This is the Knicks -- there is NO ONE who will put us in the finals.
Remember those dreaming of KD and Kyrie? How's that working out for the Nets??
And they added Harden to boot!
Stop letting the theoretical best be the enemy of the possible good. We need a PG from FOREVER. Could we draft one?? Remember Lonzo and Fultz going 1//2?? How'd that work out? Any of them making All Star yet?
Brunson is young and a solid starter for ten years baring injury. But better face it, we're going to have to LUCK OUT to get a championship piece somewhere. Not scheme or plan. Just Plain LUCK OUT.
We lucked out a few times in our history - Walt from SI (who?) and the lottery balls for Ewing. Maybe we're due.
But we're the Knicks!

No one is pretending Brunson is prime Steph Curry. He’s just a solid player at a position of need.
I’m not sure it’s wise to spend that much on a player of that caliber, but it’s not just about how good he is individually. It’s about finally stopping the bleeding at PG and how good the team will look overall when that isn’t killing us on a nightly basis.
Nothing hurts an NBA team more than bad PG play and nothing helps a team more than competent PG play.
You want to be disgusted? Look at last summer’s FA haul when we were coming off our best season in almost a decade, had tons of cap space & had our starting front court already set. Look at what they came back with. That screams that they had no idea just how desperately pathetic our backcourt situation was. Fournier? Really? You didn’t want to trade a 2nd for him but you were happy to pay him 50 mil for 3 years?

why does this board always nitpick on every single player that is not top 5 in the league?
- Brunson is arguably the 2nd best player on the 5th seed in the west
- he got better every year
- he fills our biggest positional need
- he can shoot so he can play off the ball too.
people don't get that you have to be a decent playoff team to be interesting for stars who are FA or demanding a trade. you don't go from 0 to 100. build a team.

If he was on this team this year, & if Thibs actually let him control the offense instead of just letting players determine what they want to do with no repercussions, we’d probably be a 45-50 win team at the minimum

If the MavKnicks would like Fournier and Burks, we could trade them for Brunson in a sign&trade deal...
But we need to reduce the salaries somehow, because Brunson wants $20M/year, it seems. Otherwise, Dallas would re-sign him.

I think a trade is doable. Mavs love our trash

CAA connection… nothing else. Same reason we drafted Obi over Hali bc Leon son reps Obi. Then I noticed Hali was CAA and got even more pissed.

From what I saw in one game his defense was non-existent but that could be playing with luka who doesn't do anything on defensive end. The mavs couldn't hit anything that night but they were moving better with brunson at PG then with Luka.

How u expect to get Ivey when we gona have the 12th pick or worse? We'd have to trade the world to move up when just a week ago we was set up to have the 6th pick... That's why i clocked out the rest of the season too frustrated to waste time watching vets that wont even be on the team
If we had a real coach that wasn't gona be replaced soon and actually cared about our future instead of meaningless wins it'd be different
