You can't really rely on Scherzer either. He's been banged up several times the last few years. I thought that contract was a tremendous risk.

short terms high AAV contract are no risk to cohen...he has proven winning over money...we cut cano with a ton of money left on his deal because he wasn't helping us win. If for whatever reason scherzer deal is bad year 3....we will just spend to replace him.

Yeah... it's like a Steinbrenner scenario. I guess to fans it doesn't matter when the team will spend whatever it takes. You just gotta hope he's healthy for the playoffs. Still a bit much IMO.

not really concerned about scherzer to be honest he really hasn't had a history of injuries. Sure he had a dead arm last year but he knew he shouldn't be coming out of the bullpen on short rest like he used to do.

deGrom on the other hand is another story. Not sure what we can trust from him. But I am pretty confident Scherzer is going to be ready to go once he gets back from his oblique.

The good thing is we have one of the biggest divisional leads in history entering June...so unless the braves get really hot we can kind of take it slow with both guys...have them ready for most of august...ramp up in sept...and they should have plenty of bullets for the post season.

I recall reading an article about him being banged up a few times the last few years. He isn't getting any younger. Either way....the team is playing awesome and there's time to figure things out. Wouldn't shock me if they kept the winning up even without them. Buck was a hell of coach for the Yankees and he got the shaft. He got the most out of that team though.

It's awesome when both teams are at this level. Hopefully they keep it up and we have another Subway Series!!!

Pitching injuries update from Metsblog.com

The Mets' rotation has been riddled with injuries this season, but the team continues to play great baseball, which has lessened the need for Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill to rush back from their IL stints.

Prior to Thursday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager Buck Showalter gave some updates on his three pitchers.

Tylor Megill close to rehab assignment
Megill continues to recover from bicep tendinitis, but it looks like the young pitcher is one step away from going on a rehab assignment.

"We'll wait until Friday when he takes his work day. We have it all set up. But it depends on how he feels Saturday," Showalter said. "Hopefully, Friday goes well and then we'll know what the next step will be."

Megill tossed batting practice on Tuesday with no issue and if he pitches a bullpen on Friday with no problem, then it seems the 26-year-old will go and do a number of rehab starts before returning to the rotation.

It should be noted that Megill is on a five-day schedule to get himself acclimated.

Jacob deGrom did not make trip with team
Showalter confirmed that deGrom did not make the West-Coast trip with the team. The Mets feel it was best for their ace to do his work back in New York as they are "better equipped" for his needs there.

The Mets are considering whether he can throw off a mound while he's back in New York, but that depends on how he feels in the next few days. Showalter also said that it's "up in the air" whether deGrom joins the team at any point during their eight-game road trip, but doesn't foresee it happening.

Max Scherzer is 'doing well'
As for Scherzer, Showalter said the veteran is doing fine and joked how the notorious worker is doing side sessions away from the field.

"From what we can tell, he's doing well," Showalter said. "Everyday I look at it, there's some improvements."

Showalter added that Scherzer's rehab is "right where it's supposed to be."

make that 9 homeruns in his last 15 games.

13 on the year, if this was a 162 season he's flirting with 35 homeruns. :o :o :o

He’s the first real legit prospect we’ve had in awhile. It’s not just a bunch of projections like it was with Amed. He’s actually down there producing and way ahead of where he should be for his age

I think Alvarez is still a year away, but we'll see how it goes.

2 tough losses to the Astros. This team responded to two losses to the Dodgers by closing out the west coast trip 4-1. Carrasco may be hurt, so they have starting pitching issues, but Scherzer could be back soon. Feels like a gritty team that finds ways to win even missing their 2 best pitchers. It no longer feels like the doomed franchise that it used to feel like.

Go Mets!!!
Go NY Go NY Go
