i was always rubbed the wrong way by this claim. by all accounts in reporting over the years, the knicks were supposedly his home team growing up (as is the case for many in jersey). he does the kyrie thing and tries to make the nets cool and suddenly it's because he grew up watching them

no i know he says it now, i'm saying that prior to signing with the nets, the knicks were always associated with him specifically because they were his "hometown team". blame it on the press, maybe, but you'd think we'd hear about his fandom at some point through all his various bouts of discontent

Engage Lakers in trade talks.
Randle + Kyrie for Russ and 2 1sts.
Buy out Russ.

It's kind of how the Knicks got Sprewell back in the day.

Premier talent with low value due to questionable off-the-court stuff.

Kyrie would be hard to root for with his martyr complex though.

But Spreewell always wanted to play even if it was with a chip on his shoulder. Kyrie doesn’t seem to care about whether he is out there on the court. You just can’t count on him.

I don't want Kyrie, but like Sprewell he's a great talent whose value has dropped for off-the-court reasons. That's the parallel. Their situations were obviously different.

Both are or were gambles. But let's not downplay the reason behind Spree's suspension. Sprewell hadn't played in more than a year when he joined the Knicks because of his ban, and his transgression was more serious than Kyrie's political protests.

I would pass too, and I do not see Knicks and Nets doing business, but I wouldn't just dismiss the possibility.
