Also, wasn’t Kyrie a New Jersey Nets fan growing up? If this guy could do that to a franchise he loves, what would he do to a franchise he doesn’t care about?

i was always rubbed the wrong way by this claim. by all accounts in reporting over the years, the knicks were supposedly his home team growing up (as is the case for many in jersey). he does the kyrie thing and tries to make the nets cool and suddenly it's because he grew up watching them

Would definitely sign Kyrie but only to a 1+1 deal. Can't give this guy a long term deal. Way too unstable.

Think he spoke about this. https://netswire.usatoday.com/2020/03/28/kyrie-irving-reminisces-about-growing-up-as-a-struggling-nets-fan/

Anyway, don’t really give a shat about Kyrie’s fandom. He’s a New Jersey Net.

no i know he says it now, i'm saying that prior to signing with the nets, the knicks were always associated with him specifically because they were his "hometown team". blame it on the press, maybe, but you'd think we'd hear about his fandom at some point through all his various bouts of discontent

Nets don't want to extend Kyrie, so that begs the question. How big of an L is this for Kevin Durant?

Here’s how I play this scenario.

Sign Kyrie 20 mill. Send him home.
Engage Lakers in trade talks.
Randle + Kyrie for Russ and 2 1sts.
Buy out Russ.

Hell, I’ll do it for 1 1st.

Premier talent with low value due to questionable off-the-court stuff.

Kyrie would be hard to root for with his martyr complex though.

But Spreewell always wanted to play even if it was with a chip on his shoulder. Kyrie doesn’t seem to care about whether he is out there on the court. You just can’t count on him.

I agree.

I don't want Kyrie, but like Sprewell he's a great talent whose value has dropped for off-the-court reasons. That's the parallel. Their situations were obviously different.

Both are or were gambles. But let's not downplay the reason behind Spree's suspension. Sprewell hadn't played in more than a year when he joined the Knicks because of his ban, and his transgression was more serious than Kyrie's political protests.

I would pass too, and I do not see Knicks and Nets doing business, but I wouldn't just dismiss the possibility.

how would the trade even work, he'd be opting into over 36mil

...and my cop out answer is: doesn't matter what I think, if this is even a possibility, Dolan will step in and make it so.

A proposal to KnicksGod:

Anyone who proposes a Kyrie signing/trade should get suspended for a week.

would be our best player since melo - I'm all for signing him and hoping he gets his sht together. probably our best chance at actually getting a star.

I always find it comical how we act like we are too good for players. we aren't sht.

"WE NEED A PG"

Then

"Lillard doesn't make sense, doesn't fit timeline"
"F Kyrie"
"Hali is just role player"
"Ja is a bitch, Grizzlies are better without him"
"Garland isn't that good, no big deal we passed"

"But Fox is ok"

This is all based on the assumption he plays.. which I have a few good seasons of evidence to conclude he’ll miss a huge chunk of time.. for various reasons
