Always considered Legler to be one of the more knowledgeable guys at Espn but I noticed he seems to be anti Knicks like the rest of em

Brian Windhorst my guy !

I voted yes, but only in relation to what we've had for a while

He's a solid PG. Nothing special, but he's shown steady growth the last 2 years, so I don't think last year was just a fluke for him

But I don't think he's good enough to elevate a bad team to a contender or anything, just provide a steady hand at PG, like a Mike Conley type, at least offensively

If he were better on defense, he might be more of a difference maker.

I guess it would depend on how the individual defines a difference maker

Legler said he’s a nice player but the Knicks roster is bad and he can’t propel them to a contender, so no. Then windhost said they might not even make the play in but because he’s an upgrade over burks they might win 39 or 41 games instead of 37 so he is a difference maker

Both obviously have a point and I went back and forth on it but ultimately I think I’d agree more with Legler and say no, because I’m not totally convinced they even win 37 again, not because we got worse but other teams got better and our improvement will be marginal at best unless we get some unexpected break outs

Legs definition of difference maker was basically Donovan Mitchell. Brunson is not that.
Windy, Lebrons puppet, acknowledged that Brunson is far and away above whatever we had initiating offense last year. Did the East get better? debatable. Bulls and Bobcats are worse, Nets and Cavs are better. Miami lost more than what Philly gained. Knicks should easily eclipse last years 37 wins. I do think that unless Rose and JB get hit hard with injuries, we are shoe-in for the play in, and if Thibs does his usual making the most out of a limited play-set, 45/46 wins is realistic which puts us safely above play-in.

No matter how good/bad other teams are, it's still 82 games. If you beat up on the bad teams, go even with the good teams, and only get wrecked by the 3-4 elite clubs, that's about at that .550 mark.

Duh, of course he's a difference maker. He takes the ball out of Randle's hands.

He's the starting PG in this year's all star game! You heard it here first.

Or he's just gonna fit in and be the biggest upgrade at PG we have seen in years. That alone is a difference maker. This team lacks top end talent. A new PG is only going to make so much difference on this team. It's not going out on a limb to say he doesn't make us a contender or a threat.

It's not Brunsons fault that the only one spacing the floor is Fourni3r. If the paint wasn't so crowded he would be able to be more of a difference maker.

That said he will still be a difference maker - cause his D looks bad. Getting cooked by McConnell was really disappointing.

So people are agreed that we will only win 3 more games? SMH the self hate of Knick fans is astonishing to think with off season work of our young players and the addition of one of the better PGs in the NBA we can only string together 3 more wins…

We won 37 games last year and the season was a disaster.

I see a .500 team with a chance to add a few more wins. Depends on the kids improving and everyone staying healthy. Brunson should help and Rose is going to be key for the bench unit. The team still lacks talent at the top.

it depends what you mean by difference maker. if you're talking about in the standings, it's not likely.

it also seems like he hurts nearly as much on defense as he helps on offense and we haven't even played anybody good yet. so.....nah.

Yeah. Having an actual PG will make a difference. Also, spouting random crap about the Knicks will get you clicks.

You really are going to die on Fournier Hill aren't you?

Bad read on the pulse of the room even when taking into account the general negativity, because most people here are still viewing it within the context of the Eastern Conference

The East is better this year. It makes it harder to add easy wins which is what would allow them to have a turnaround season that shoots for 50 wins. A few wins more this season = more than a few more wins last year. Playing .500 would be more than a small improvement now

The title's misleading. Legler says the Knicks were only competing for the playoffs last year, and even with the addition of Brunson, the Knicks will still, only be competing for the playoffs. It's a reasonable take, chopped up by a one-liner headline.

He's right though.

Assuming Brunson is the primary ball-handler, the Knicks in 2022 really have only one legit floor spacer.

If Randle and/or RJ can shoot in the high-30s/40s again like they did two years ago, then that changes things.
