OT: Fournier and Kenny Smith get Scalp Micro Pigmentation

I was wondering why Fournier’s “hair” looks a little weird at times, and my boy told me it’s because he got scalp micro pigmentation, or smp.

If you dont know what that is, it’s a new thing that came out around 10 years ago. Basically subtle little dots that look like follicles are tattooed on your balding areas/scars to give the appearance of a shaved head. It’s permanent but should be touched up every 3-5 years apparently. Seems to cost $1-2K initially and a few hundred bucks for each touch up.

When he doesnt shave you can notice it on his hairline and crown:

When he shaves it looks way better:

Fournier is just lazy with shaving his remaining real hair I guess, as you’re supposed to shave with no guard or with a razor every few days. But the guy is completely bald on top. Pretty cool actually if you like a shaved look and dont wanna get an expensive transplant (they cost at least $10-20K usually) that may not work and/or take hair drugs.

Kenny Smith also got it lately:

PJ Tucker is confirmed all smp too:

Chris Paul and many others likely got it as well. If it’s done right and you keep it shaved you can barely notice anything. Lots of places do it around the world and in NYC now I see.

Anyway, thought this was funny and interesting to share. Never heard of it before. One day there will be a real cure for baldness for the follicle challenged. Lebron is just waiting to retire to get another hair transplant. SMP would probably look alright on him though.

Aren’t there real hair transplants in Turkey now? At least a lot of people go there to get them.

I heard they’re cheaper in Turkey than here, but transplants arent always successful regardless (look at LeBron).

You also need to be on risky hormone drugs like Propecia to keep your remaining hair after a transplant. I think Propecia is banned in pro sports though which is why LeBron keeps losing hair after his transplants.

I have a few relatives who went to Turkey with great results.

LeBron James must have went to a bad surgeon in the US. And the popular method they use here in the US isn't as great as the method in Turkey. The method used the most in the US leaves scars (LeBron James is a good example). And it's more expensive here. IMHO, the doctors here don't do that good of a job. In Turkey, their specialists do these procedures constantly, so they are well trained.

So many people in the US drop 20k-30k, sometimes +50k for crappy results. I feel bad for them wasting that much money. Their results left a lot to be desired. And lot of the times, require 2 to 4 more operations.

I think they lifted the Propecia ban a while ago for athletes.

I take this pill (generic though) to keep my hair. Baldness runs in my family. I took it as soon as I saw signs of legit balding. So far... it's looking like I won't need a transplant. And it looks like I got a lot of my thinning hair back to thick.

You can cut the pills in half to reduce the chances of side-effects. In Korea, the drug is also very popular where it's only a dosage of 0.25mg (one quarter of the pill here in the USA). I read that it's still as effective as taking the full dosage for hair-loss.

I wish I took the Propecia pill sooner. When I noticed thinning, I wasted so much time and money on supplements, different routines, shampoos. They all do nothing. Complete waste. It wasn't until you could see my scalp and notice receding when I finally decided to take the pill. But better a little late then even later. I won't have to get a transplant anytime soon.

Propecia is the name brand. Finasteride is the drug. I got the generics mad cheap. I think I paid 12 bucks for a bottle of 120 and I cut them in half.

Finasteride is the only FDA approved drug to stop hair loss. I read dutasteride is better. But I'm not sure if it's FDA approved for baldness. And it's more expensive.

And then a hair transplant.

There is no other baldness cures.

I don't know why I wrote all this lol. Guess I'm just looking out for anybody that fears going bald like I used to haha. No regrets with Propecia/Finasteride here. Better sooner then later and requiring a hair transplant.

Thanks for the info bro. I saw some horror stories about Propecia a while ago about sexual dysfunction, low libido/testosterone and what not. Seems to be fine for most people though, so good that it works for you. LeBron is obviously not doing something right then lol.

I think this SMP stuff has potential though, and no drugs are needed. It looks even more subtle on black men because their skin is obviously darker. A lot of NBA players probably rock it now.

Btw what was your old username again? Were you always Stannis?

I read those horror stories too. And those keep so many people from taking the pill. I think it's overdone and fear mongering tbh. Especially if you take it under medical supervision w/ annual blood-work. Glad I finally said fvk it. I just wish I didn't let those stories influence me so much. I coulda had another year or two without stressing about baldness lol.

I think it actually boosted my testosterone. My test levels were like 200 points higher a year after I started taking it. And I'm in decent shape, which reduces the chance of scary side effects (Lower fat % helps reduce sides I read). No libido issues yet. But the first few weeks I was on these pills, I had extremely high libido lmao.

If I was black/mixed and had an evenly shaped head, SMP wouldn't be bad. It's a viable solution for some and can look good. But I got a big lumpy Albanian head. And still can't grow a beard.

Wouldn't you have to keep shaving all the time so it wont look uneven with your real hair?

Yeah, every few days you just gotta shave the real hair down I guess. Prob doesnt take long with an electric razor.

Thats why Fournier’s looks off most of the time, because he doesnt shave often enough. When he does it looks pretty good.

Can you get it on your face to rock a permanent 5 o-clock shadow like prime George Micheal?

Haha.

Yeah u can actually. Just looked it up on youtube. Id prob advise against that though since its on the damn face lol. Looks more natural on top, but depends on who does it. Some guys are really good and some are questionable, just like normal tattoo artists. They’ve gotten better over the years though, and seem to have the formula down.

I still say if somebody is losing their hair, just go full masculinity and follow the 3 Bs: Go Bald (as in razor shave or at least buzz with no guard), Get Buff (lift some f*ckin weight), and grow a Beard if you can (even just stubble or a short one. Dont gotta be Harden).
