Ok. I've pretended I wanted the Knicks to trade for OG Anunoby for defense, when the real reason is I want to hear Clyde call him OG Obinobi

Ha, I’ve been saying Cam Payne is Thibs’ wet dream of a backup PG for a while now.
He’s lefty Elfrid with a layup package except Elfrid occasionally passed the ball.

From the last thread about the Thunder tanking and Chet being a superstar:
We tanked more than they did. Knicks had #4, #3, #8, #9,#8 picks
OKC just had #6 and #2, am I missing more high lottery picks?
In the last 10 years the Knicks had 17, 21 and another 17 win seasons...also 29,31,32
OKC's lowest wins were 22 and 24 and then 40
They won 40 games this year which is the definition of treadmill.
Why do people feel like the Thunder are a model tanking franchise and the Knicks never do it?

That's part of it. I think a team like OKC, Philly, Houston, commit more to the losses in a tighter window, make the tank more of an outright strategy.
Plus, of course, not completely sucking at drafting.
At least the Knicks have been mostly ok with the picks they've kept with this regime, minus the quick Obi payday for Leon Rose's son.

So glad they finally caught ClydeStyles!
Anyway, what would be the point of Payne? Unless you have a follow up IQ trade somewhere.

Agree. Only way you get Cam is if they have a trade with Quickly to follow.

Cam Payne is redundant.
But Nwora would be the perfect target. He was rumored as part of the trade. He is a great 6ª8 3 pt shooter and can play PF and SF. He should not be very expensive and neither demand minutes.

I suspect IQ will be getting alot of mins at the 2 spot when Grimes aint in there so the Knicks need another backup point. It would have been interesting if Rokas got a shot at it but I don't think this FO/coach is all that good at using those types of international players. I bet it's just an asset to them.
If the Knicks send out Fournier and no picks to get Cam Payne and a trade exception, it's a sideways move but with some potential upside to it. If the Knicks send out one of the protected firsts to do that deal, I'm not liking it at all, it seems like wasting away draft assets for nothing.
It does feel too quiet...as if there's something more to happen but since it's the Knicks maybe nothing is better than something right now.

I think we can scratch OG Anunoby off the list of possible targets. I read that Toronto was even unwilling to move him in a potential deal for the third pick.
They are going to start the season with him, likely going to give him a larger role and see what he can do. If he expands his game and is averaging like 20+ points/7+rebounds on good percentages and great defense, they'll likely extend him on a slight overpay. If he remains essentially what he is right now then they'll probably revisit trades at the deadline.

This is likely going to be the team that'll start the season:
Brunson/IQ/DD
Grimes/IQ/Hart/DD
RJ/Hart
Randle/Hart or RJ
Mitch/IHart
9 man rotation, everybody has their role and playing time. Probably going to be in the 45 win vicinity. It's not exactly sexy but solid. For the Knicks to get into that 50+ win territory and come closer to true contender status, one of the younger players has to take a major step anyways...no way around this. All the rumors that I've read so far were massive overpays.
The play-in format has really worked to some degree. It seems that now like 20-25 teams are looking to be competitive and the price for established talent has thus skyrocketed. It is of utmost importance to draft well and develop your own players. Hopefully RJ, IQ or Grimes can take another major step.

I think it is partly viewed that way because of the Durant era. They drafted Durant at 2, Harden at 3 and Westbrook at 4. They actually had a big three only through the draft. Also keep in mind that from 2024-2027 they have 9!!! FRPs coming in from other teams. That's pretty massive and twice as many as we have and some of them very lightly protected (Houston pick 2024 only 1-4 protected, Philly pick in 2025 1-6)....I think what "hurt" their approach was the last season. Many had OKC as a top 5 worst team candidate and I think Presti as well. When Holmgren went down, many thought OKC could potentially end up with Wembenyama or Scoot etc. The SGA just exploded into superstar level player and took a 25 win team to 40 wins.

There is no way DD is 3rd string.

You have to take into account that Hart or RJ are going to play the 4. It is essentially about playing time IMO. I could easily see Hart play mainly the back-up minutes at the 3 and 4. If you figure in injuries and everything I think it is entirely possible for the above 9 players to get enough PT to keep them happy.

We still have no true small forward nor a backup power forward but we’re solid everywhere else.

Everyone wanted small ball, Knicks got small, complaints abound. Sad.
I know, this isn't what people meant by small ball.
It's more a having a stretch 4 play the 5 and a tall 3 play the 4.

Unfortunately it seems that nowadays the asking price for a two way wing is like 2 young players + 3 picks or something. Thus it seems getting a two way SF is nearly impossible.
I actually wonder what the Nets would ask for a guy like DFS....like the ultimate role playing two-way SF. I bet it would be at least 2 FRPs.
