Knicks lucked up in the 2019 draft

Let's inject more positivity into our veins.
With RJ seemingly taking the next step, Ja Morant suspended and his reputation in the gutter, and Zion looking short, fat and less explosive and inspired than ever.... it looks like we may have finally hit on a lottery pick.
RJ works hard, he plays hard, he's durable, and his game is becoming more efficient and well-rounded by the day. He's got a great head on his shoulders and he loves playing in NY. He has more to improve upon, but considering he's still just 23 and has made strides every season, becoming a multiple-time all-star is well within his reach.
Ja is obviously the more talented player. But man.... we're lucky we don't have the guy surrounded by controversy involving guns and constant partying here in NY. It would have been a media sh*t storm for the Knicks, and would have been that much harder for Ja to rebuild his image and salvage his career.
As for Zion? Also the more naturally gifted player obviously, but after so many injuries and weight issues, if he's lost this much of a step already, I think it's safe to say his ceiling is seriously capped moving forward, and with a gun to my head (no pun intended), I'm betting on RJ to have the better career from here on out.

Broadway is no longer on the market. Thank you for your vested interest.

I’m just happy he’s doing well. Idgaf if other guys in the draft are better. This is the decision we made and it’s already paid dividends in the playoffs. Let’s hope that’s something that continues for years to come

the only players from that draft better than rowan are zion ja and garland and as you've already said the first two are probs more trouble than they're worth. so drafting the fourth best player at 3 ain't too bad at all

I'll take this version of RJ over Garland.

4th best player is who we thought we had all along. Point of the thread is that RJ is better than 4th best. I think the Knicks came away with a best case scenario if everything keeps trending in this direction. I'll take Brunson and this version of RJ over Garland and whatever situation we'd be in with him as our lead guy. Garland is nothing special to me.

I think it's healthy to point it out with all the negativity that swirls around this board so often. Knicks started slow and the sky was falling as usual, so I'm gonna bask in this while it lasts.
IMO it's a big deal if the Knicks wind up coming away with the best player in that draft. Both Ja and Zion were widely considered to be possible franchise guys, and there was a lot of hype around Garland for a while until the Knicks son'd the Cavs in the POs.
In general the Knicks lucked out in 2019. My heart was set on drafting Zion and signing KD and Kyrie lol. Glad none of that transpired. Just goes to show that patience is a virtue in sports. RJ has taken so much slander as a Knick and he's finally serving up some crow. Feels good.

If we drafted Zion and signed KD/Kyrie like we all wanted?

Would have been a nightmare for 3 years!

comparison is the thief of joy, stop worrying what other players are doing and just be happy rj is living up to his potential

If RJ keeps up this level of productions for 20 games there will be an "RJ Barret eat crow thread".

He's having the best season from that class so far. Barrett has a great head on his shoulders and dedication to his craft. His biggest issue was that the game needed to slow down for him and it doesn't surprise me that he put in the work to get there. The system he used to get his shot right seems to have worked as well.

I mean, he wore a suit. That tells you all you need to know!
I don't know if we even want this, but Zion will always be rumored to come to NY if not LA. If he can prove to be healthy, there is a scenario where he demands a trade during his prime and we have RJ and Zion. Could be like Wade for LeBron.

Two way wings > Overweight no defense playing small PFs that are made of glass and gravy
Two way wings > Gun toting predicate felon point guards that can't shoot threes but can only shoot with a red beam.
Two way wings > Soft point guards that can't play a hint of defense without his two robotic no offense equally soft bigs behind him

He's better than Garland.
Point guards are a dime a dozen, Garland isn't even the best young PG in his own division. Wings and things > points not named Chef.

Nah bro. All the soul-sucking, woe-is-me concern trolls on RealGM are the real thieves of joy. All I've heard for the last 4 years is how the Knicks got screwed in the draft again falling to 3 and having to select RJ. Knicks got lucky they landed RJ. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Kick rocks.

This will most definitely be pinned in the upcoming "RJ Barret Eat Crow" thread.
