If the 76ers most likely lose their Monday night game and Knicks win this, the Knicks will be able to get 3rd seed based on win percentage points and also pull into 1.5 games behind the Bucks for 2nd…

You gotta think this .842 January win percentage will slow down now that Randle's out for a bit.

The funny thing about seeding is that I'd rather play Cleveland as a 4 or 5 seed than Miami, Indy or even Orlando in round one as the 2 or 3 seed.

Right, but if Mitchell was here, would Brunson still be Brunson? I would suggest that no, he’d have to step back and be the 2nd option and not have the opportunity to prove that he was actually better than Mitchell.

<shrug>

It's all for the best. DM is not the roster fit for us now. Brunson is the man and I consider him a superior player to Mitchell anyway. Onwards

Wait, have you not heard the second law of message boards? The first law is everything must be reduced to two opposing binaries. The second law is that each individual would be exactly the same regardless of external circumstances like which team, teammates, and coach he plays for.

By message board logic, the Brunson-Mitchell backcourt would average exactly the same stats as they have now. And also you’d have to choose between team Donovan or team Jalen because there’d be totally non-fabricated beef.

This is the plausible scenario I could see happening playing out the rest of the way of the regular season...

Celtics will continue to win at a decent clip and likely remain the top seed. The Bucks look like they figured out their regular season woes under Doc finishing 2nd but his bugaboo is the playoffs so we'll see. The Sixers and Cavs will fight it out for third as the Knicks try to hang tough, tho probably drop a little behind them. Although, if you told me that Cavs take 3rd with Sixers and Knicks fighting for HCA I'd believe it, and a bit too unjustifiably optimistic the Pacers can't catch them.

Obviously a trade/injury caveat since that can change the playoff landscape quite a bit.

Even if won, this game could be a high watermark of the Knicks in the race for a little while because of the injuries yet if Brunson can actually rally the team to stay in it and possibly even with those two others he'll get MVP votes. Maybe even a 1st place or two, he still might get them anyway, it's been impressive already. Although, this stretch of games until the break has the power to make or break their season.

It would be exciting if the Knicks could find themselves sole occupant of the 3rd seed right after this game...at least for a day until the Cavs beat the Pistons a day later. They need to win this game to have any chance of it and the Sixers to lose.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

We should all be thanking the Jazz for giving us an ass whooping without Lauri. That probably spurred the Knicks to make that OG trade a month earlier.

People need to stop with these 2,3rd, even 4th seed dreams. The Knicks got lucky to beat a crappy, undisciplined, LaMelo-less Hornets team. It's entirely within the realm of possibility they drop every game between now and the all star break.

More likely, they'll go 3-6.

The schedule isn't easy, Randle is WAY more important than people think, OG is now hurting and looks like he'll be missing games, and even iHart isn't 100%.

Wait until the Knicks play some team with an actual half assed commitment to defense or the Pacers, who don't defend at all, but look to score 140 each game. Think this team has enough offensive firepower right now to put up 145? No.

Nah I like Lavine’s law. You take a player, put them on the Knicks, pretend the Knicks will fix their problems and that they’re really good and then just keep talking about it.

However, to take it back to a more serious post, I am pretty confident in saying that if Brunson doesn’t get the opportunity, does he show what he’s doing now? I don’t think so. If Mitchell were to come here now, it would be a different dynamic. And tbh, I wonder if Mitchell’s best position isn’t sg but pg.

In truth, though, it was more an argument that has been rehashed over time: did we need to overpay for Mitchell?

We are in a bad place. No Mitch. No Randle. iHart/OG less than 100%. This game should be reality crashing down on our heads. Last night we played a HS team and struggled in the first half to look any better than that.

My fear is that we are gonna lean too hard on Brunson now. Hope he can survive the next 2 months playing 40+mpg. We need help and there isn't much on the market that will make a difference. This next two weeks could be brutal.
