Free agency opens on June 30? I think I have this date right.

So do trades happen before or after?

The draft is listed for June 26th so I'd expect trades then or before.

trades can happen right now, nothing stopping it. (as long as the player is not playing in finals)
renegotiating with own free agents is day after final day of finals.
talking to free agents of other teams is june 30th.

Its just a unwritten rule (that occasionally is broken) to not do a trade during the playoffs. Once the playoffs end trades start to trickle in.

I think this may be a realistic off-season:

1) iHart signs 72m with final year opt out (to dip into higher cap)
2) OG signs $39m per with final year opt out
3) We don't guarantee Bogs... get out of his deal so we can sign MLE player (like we did with DDV last year)
4) We sign a guy like Melton for 3-4 year MLE (or comparable guy... maybe Oubre?)
5) We only draft the #24 pick 3&D 6'8" wing to learn from OG... we trade #25 forward... we draft #38 for a euro stash
6) We let Precious walk... we don't sign Burks... we don't bring Rokas over... we keep Sims and the end of bench guys
7) We extend Thibs 4 years
8) Randle does not extend yet... waits for next season
9) Brunson extends before the start of the season

iHart / Mitch / Sims
Randle / Hart
OG / 3&D Prospect Draftee
DDV / McBride
Brunson / Melton

...would not surprise me one bit.

It's going to be a fun juxtaposition to see how the FO handle this offseason being the last offseason that it's "easy" to make a trade for a star but, also being the first off-season that they probably can feel comfortable banking on internal development, better health and small margin moves to get to contender status next year.

Looks actually quiet realistic. If the Knicks are really planning on trading Mitch I could envision them making a run at Jonas Valanciunas. He is said to be seeking the MLE and would provide good rebounding, hustle and can hit the occassional 3. He is also a 78% FT shooter. Would be a decent replacement for Mitch IMO. He got 12points/9rebounds last season in only 24minutes a game so he could split minutes with Ihart. That would free us up to use Mitch and picks etc. for another trade. Possibly some 3 way for Markannen. Losing Mitch and Bogs while adding Jonas and Markannen would make us slightly worse on rim protection and defense overall, but it would add a lot of rebounding and tons of offense from our frontcourt.

Hmmm.... Mitch + Bogs + McBride + pick(s) for Mikal... then grab Valanciunas for the MLE @ 3 years... bring Rokas over... and shed salary wherever else you can to stay under the apron....

iHart / Valanciunas
Randle / Hart
OG
Mikal / DDV
Brunson / Rokas

We'd be better than last season... 55 wins+ and locked in together for 3-5 years... worth a shot, I would think.
