The reason people just went about their days is 1, this guy was another Republican so they can’t spin it as Dems trying to kill him, and 2 cause he didn’t even get a shot off, SS were the only ones to shoot, he ran away and they got him later

Anyways, in a sane country we’d be talking about immediate gun bans, but because we live in crazy town, that ain’t gonna happen.

He can thank his lucky stars he'll soon be able to spend the rest of his life under protective custody in prison. No guns there. Problem solved

I love how with any assassination attempt, the press goes out and tries to find out their political affiliation.

I mean, it's of some importance. You'd like to know if there MIGHT be a trend of a certain portion of the population is losing it's mind, politically speaking.

The volumes of evidence that the country is losing it's mind politically, in general, of less interest.

Also, unless the person is hired by the CIA, deep state, Iran, Russia, Sri Lanka, whatever, their politics before the attempt don't matter. They are a garden variety lunatic.

So, they decided to take a shot at a politico instead of a school or night club or supermarket.

He seemed to have beliefs across both parties:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/15/trump-florida-shooter-suspect-son-ukraine

A third post from December also expressed concern for Haiti, which has been dealing with violent civil unrest.

Trump invoked both Ukraine and Haiti in his recent debate with Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the 5 November White House race.

With respect to the latter country, the Republican nominee would only say he wanted Ukraine’s war with Russia “to stop”. But he made it a point to avoid saying he wanted Ukraine to triumph, fueling concerns that a second Trump presidency could suspend US military support to those defending the country.

Asked what he would tell his father if he could speak to him, Oran Routh said: “I know the discourse isn’t working, but we still need to stick to the discourse.”

He then politely excused himself from the conversation to try to find out more information about his father’s arrest on Sunday.

In a separate interview with CNN on Sunday, Oran Routh also called Ryan “a loving and caring father” and an “honest hardworking man”.

“I don’t know what has happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I’ve heard it doesn’t sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent,” he said.

Online records show a man with the same name and age as Ryan Routh is registered to vote in North Carolina and lists his party affiliation as Democrat. Those records show he last voted in North Carolina’s presidential primaries in March.

However, many on X noted how the political views espoused by the account under Routh’s name were not exclusively pro-Democrat. The account described voting for Trump in 2016 and expressed support for a White House ticket combining the unsuccessful Republican presidential primary contenders Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley.

The account’s most recent post was addressed to Harris, timed in between Trump’s failed 13 July assassination at a political rally in Pennsylvania and when she replaced Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket after the president opted to halt his re-election campaign. The post said the vice-president and Biden should visit two spectators wounded and attend the funeral of a rally-goer slain at the shooting before the attacker was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.

“Show the world what compassion and humanity is all about,” the post said.

That's because the US mass corporate 24 hr news media no longer is about journalism. These companies are frothing at the mouth for anything to continue to draw clicks/ratings/ad revenue and the journalists run stories favorable to certain people in quid pro quo deals in exchange for continued access.

When Fat Boy Donny said that the media is the enemy of the American People, there was a shred of truth to that, but not under the context that he meant it. These corporate owned outlets would sell us all up the river or stoke the flames of a civil war as long as it drives revenue.

24/7 cable news is a cancer in this country.

Just some thoughts, but it seems most assassination attempts are done by isolationists / incels / individuals who feel alone. Most people associated with a group or political party don't want to give up their life or spend the rest of their life in prison for their cause. That's a lot to lose and most people, even the politically entrenched, don't want to lose that much.

Sarah Jane Moore, who shot at President Ford and missed, seems to be one of the rare ones who was politically active, on the far left.

and, of course, John Wilkes Booth was a confederate sympathizer, but more often than not, the assassin/attempted assassin is in their own world.

Lee Harvey Oswald was kind of a communist, but he didn't care for Russia when he lived there, and he never got to talk after the shooting. Sirhan Sirhan may have been an early Muslim terrorist who hated Israel, but he's said very little about the shooting of RFK, mostly claiming to not remember it. John Hinkley was in love with and wanted to impress Jodie Foster.

It would make a great headline splash "Liberal takes a shot at Trump" so . . . that's everyone's first thought, but two people shot at or came close to shooting at Trump and so far, neither of them were liberals. Why would a liberal shoot at Trump anyway? Better to watch him lose and then go to jail.

I don't really blame the media. The natural questions are "who was it" and "why did they do it/try to do it" followed by "what is their political party. I don't know how a reporter would write this story about this guy getting within 500 yards of Trump with an AK-47 and not covering their reasons and their party? What would they write about? The clothes he was wearing?

The partisanship in the country sucks and I think the easy access to high powered rifles is a problem that we'd be wise to address, but I don't think the attention on who was this person, why did they do it and are they affiliated with a political party, is something that can be avoided. On that particular coverage, I don't blame the media.

And, Sorry Donnie. You don't get to flash a showy bandage this time. Better luck next time. Maybe you could ask the secret service to let them get off a shot so you can have another photo-op. Maybe they can clip you in the fingernail, or the hair or graze that fat ass of yours.

Probably why you shouldn’t start a movement that glorifies political violence.

Trump needs to go away. I don't advocate murder. I just want him to lose the election and go to jail for his crimes. That's all. This country can't survive any more of this insanity. He is destroying our country.

The USA seems to be alternating school shootings with Presidential assassination attempts every couple of weeks.

It's getting old. For most of us, now registers as (per youtube Pitch Meeting famous catchphrase) "Barely an inconvenience."

Why stop there? Throw all these crooked politicians in jail, start fresh with term limits and take the money out of politics.

Sad it’ll never happen tho..
