They're going to give Sims a shot and then just see where it goes from there. I think we can all assume Mitch will be out until January -- 31 games. The opponents featuring a team where size at the 5 will matter (not necessarily meaning we'll lose) are:
Cavs Oct28
@Rockets Nov4
Bucks Nov8
@Sixers Nov 12
@Nuggets Nov25
@Mavs Nov27
@Hornets Nov29
Magic Dec3
Hornets Dec5
Pistons Dec7
@Raptors Dec9
@Wolves Dec19
Raptors Dec23
Spurs Dec25
@Magic Dec27
Suppose we go 6-9 in those 15 games. And by contrast we go 12-4 in the other 16 games. That takes us into January with a record of 18-13 with 51 games remaining. Plenty of time to still win 50 (32-19 is very doable -- Knicks were 29-17 before Randle went down last year).
Is it worth trading our only assets to maybe win 3 more games in November & December?

Precious isn't the intimidator nor does he have the height of iShart, but I think he can fill some of his role on offense, as Precious has something of an all around offensive game.
The key seems to be to not let him do TOO much. Don't bring the ball up the court, no more than 3 dribbles, probably not too many jumpers, etc.
I think Thibs can get him to play a disciplined offensive game and we'll all be pleasantly surprised. Also, it's not just Thibs; Precious getting to that age where NBA players kind of "figure it out" and realize that while trying to do everything well got them to the NBA, it's time to limit the focus and do more with less.
Granted, it's a Raptor's homer:
Ignore that the Knicks lost....

Also, Bibby was on KFTV saying that Sims has a lot more to show. Sims spent a part of the offseason working with Bibby. Maybe the team realizes this same sentiment and is ok with expanding his role. He's been on the team almost 4 years now so it wouldn't be a big shock that they said its time to see if hes worth keeping around anymore.

Don't fall for this training camp fodder.
Every year everyone is going to come out better than they did the previous year.
Then reality hits.
Sims is what he is a - an extremely limited and soft center with insane athleticism.

I’m really only worried about maybe 5 of those games. Cavs, bucks, 76ers, nuggets, and maybe the spurs. I think precious will match up with rim runners and sengun just fine. Sengun is awesome but he doesn’t have the size of Embiid, Lopez, or Joker. Cavs bigs are good be neither of them are really post threats and we might be able to run the Cavs out of the gym. Wemby is just so much taller than everyone else but I’m curious if you can under him like guys used to do against KP. So it should be survivable.

Every thread seems to end up being about the Knicks's center position. Probably even the Trump asassination thread (not following). I thought that was extremely boring. But if Mitch really is going to be out until January maybe there was some point to it.
Maybe the Knicks should think more about if Hukporti could fill useful minutes.
