The summer of 2024 was a good one for the Brunson family.

First, New York Knicks assistant coach Johnnie Bryant left to join the Cleveland Cavaliers' staff — leading to a promotion for assistant coach Rick Brunson. Then, Rick's son — guard Jalen Brunson — inked a team-friendly extension with the Knicks.

For the NBA, however, it appears these events were a little too good to be true. According to a Monday night report from Ian Begley of SNY, the NBA has opened an investigation into whether the Brunsons' machinations constituted cap circumvention — an insinuation that has drawn furious blowback from New York.

TBH, I've always thought there was a lil money going under the table. However, I'm sure (or at least hope) the KNICKS are aware of how things looked to the league and expected (once Jalen took that huge pay cut) that the league would come snooping.

whatever rick is making isn't anywhere near the ballpark of a player salary consideration.

He didn't take a paycut, though. Wasn't the amount he got this past summer the highest he could've gotten, and he would've had to wait until the summer of 2025?

Rick needed Jalen to help pay to finish his basement

Also. This is dumb. Brunson basically took less now to build a championship team, he's gonna get maxed out on the re up for an insane amount of money.

Instead of digging in Jalen's pockets maybe Adam Silver needs to focus on why his referees suck balls

Very true. Except, I think the league is saying that by having Rick in the organization as a "coach," the KNICKS can funnel additional money through him without anyone noticing.

I don't know what is happening behind the scenes but I can't be surprised that the Brunson/Rose/CAA connections have started to draw a little attention. Mark Cuban actually made a joke about it on the Roommates podcast.

The league made it known publicly they didn't like the way the KNICKS "circumvented" the new CBA by using the G-League to sign players and other Brock Aller tricks.

I'm not sure if the Brunson stuff has legs or not, but the league is certainly looking to get even with us for finding clever ways to get what we wanted.

oh, i get it. my point is that plan is silly because even the most overinflated coach salary is lunch money to jalen brunson. wouldn't make a dent. can't even call it back channel money.

like, what could rick make? 1/50th? lol. it's a silly conversation.

Love to see what BS the league will take. Promoting Rick to a vacant position seems as organic as it gets. I HIGHLY doubt Dolan is slipping money under the table. The dude's a prick, but he isn't a stupid prick.

Rick is Thibs’ consigliere and is being paid as such. Nothing to see here.

Aller found loop holes in the current framework. That's not his problem. It's the league's. Hire better lawyers.

What are they gonna do? They're not gonna do anything substantial even if the Leon and Co circumvented the cap.

This is deeper than what they are investigating. They don't like Dolan. Period. Trying to stir up shyt when we are making a title push is BS. Just like they change the lottery odds when we are looking at the top pick. We keep dropping every year in the lottery. Etc etc. It's been decades that they despise the man. Suspending those players back in the day. The officiating disparity. The constant trashing of the team by the media outlets. This is nothing new.

They don't like the fact that the circus has left town and we are a well run franchise now. When Dolan wins a ring they will all be pissed.

The NBA employs a referee that probably would have gone to prison had David Stern not obstructed justice by railroading the FBI's case.

Miles Bridges beat his wife and threw pool balls at his own kids. He's playing tonight

Draymond Green.

They're not gonna do anything

That’s how Leon rolls. It’ll be a problem one day. He’s a POS. And I’m the only one here who’s had any direct personal experience with him.
