This is it. A thread where derailments aren't derailments. They're the whole point. Where posters can freely fight about players that aren't on the team anymore and litigate old trades without the wagging finger of pesky mods.

Welcome to Hamsterdam fight thread. If you don't like fight thread, don't come to fight thread. To that end, everything that happens in fight thread stays in fight thread aka the first rule of fight thread is you don't talk about fight thread.

This thread will be lightly moderated but general decorum of not slurring each other or going extra on personal attacks apply. If you have to come to us with anything that happens here it should be done only with great shame. Except political trolls. Get 'em out. That said, mods will be more vigilant board wide going forward about keeping discussions that belong in fight thread contained in fight thread.

All that out of the way? 3-2-1 FIGHT!!!!!

I'll start. The Marbury trade was bullsh** and set us back a decade.

We should have amnestied Amare instead of Billups. Chauncy was expiring and it was obvious that Amare didn't have a future.

IT WASN'T YET OBVIOUS! AT THE VERY LEAST WE SHOULD HAVE WAITED!

I honestly agree. STAT was still productive, but using the amnesty on an expiring was bad business, even though we did it to bring in Tyson.

We should have been more judicious with our "get out of jail free" card.

I remember literally feeling a shiver up my spine when it was announced we did that

The above was my rally cry at the time. However, I've actually gone the other way and come around to it a bit. It would have been a very hard pill to swallow having just signed Amar'e and he had that great partial first season. Amar'e and Carmelo were never gonna fit though, even healthy. Carmelo, Chandler, and Point Guard To Be Named Later with a few decent role players could have made some serious noise.

Amnestying Chauncey was wild though.

The THJ signing was one of the worst decisions by the Knicks this century. They finally moved on from Melo. All they had to do was let the young kids rock and take their top 5 lottery pick, focus on growth in 18-19, then go shopping in 2019 with KP & Luka (that was my goal anyway). But Steve "compete" Mills had to fuq it up.

Probably would have had CP3 and Melo...

Previous Knick management was so crazy and I fought so hard on these forums about it. For what, I'm not quite sure. It's part of why I have a hard time getting too worked up about anything Knick related anymore. Like, sure, we left some holes and things to figure out this summer. Acknowledged. But back in the day we traded two unprotected picks for Eddy Curry that became Joakim Noah and LaMarcus Aldridge. These are the kinds of cautionary tales you tell your grandchildren about and it keeps them up at night for months.

Smh how are we gonna start this thread and some posters are rehashing stuff that’s not gonna start drama? Is the purpose of this thread not to start drama?!?!

I gotta really begin this thread.

Trading for Donovan Mitchell would have set the Knicks really behind, and a lot of our success these past few years can be attributed to not letting Ainge rape us that fateful off-season. I’m so glad we didn’t get him and his playoff failures only accentuate that.

Also Julius Randle cannot be a 3rd or 4th option. We can’t just randomly cram people into the 3rd or 4th option role if they lack the talent to be 2nd options. The responsibility of those roles is different.

Also anyone could have told you Brunson >>>>>> Randle after their first season on the Knicks.

Let’s goooooooo

Times flies, doesn’t it? Crazy to think that the Marbury trade was almost 21 years ago and Melo trade was almost 14 years ago

Seeing as how there really are no active players from these eras and some guys are even coaches now (Kidd and Chauncey) it’s probably more interesting to talk about the current active players. Any active former Knicks you guys want to discuss? :D

I remember when Isiah cut Demetris Nichols and this board almost burned to the ground. He was the Jackie Butler of forwards.

Nichols signed with Cleveland and people were talking about the potential "revenge game" for weeks
