Josh Hart and KAT call out the Minutes Police!

Post#1 » by ctorres » Thu Jan 9, 2025 5:53 pm

https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-josh-hart-role-minutes-win-raptors

“Every year, it’s the same thing. We do the same thing as always. We have a couple bad games, a couple losses in a row and all y'all cry about minutes, be the minute police and all that,” he said. “That’s all outside noise. We’re gonna play the game the way we’re supposed to play it. We’re gonna play as hard as we can when we’re out there.

“I want to be out there (playing big minutes), myself personally,” Hart added. “So it’s just noise.”

Towns was also asked about the minutes issue on Wednesday.

“It’s great when you can get the reps up…I’ve already played for Thibs. So we all are very aware of the way he likes to play basketball, we respect him and we know he’s going to give us the best chance to win every single night,” Towns said after putting up 27 points and 13 rebounds against Toronto. “So I don’t think it’s new to us. For us we’re new as a cohesive unit, but playing for the mastermind of Thibs, we’re in a good comfortable place.”

Towns was also asked about criticism of Thibodeau over minutes load when he was in Minnesota.

“I feel like y’all give him flack all the time. No matter where he’s at. The one thing about it, y’all keep talking about him so that means he keeps getting a job so that means he’s respected and you know what he can do for a team,” Towns said. “He’s done it in Chicago, he did it with Boston, he did it with us in Minny and he’s doing it here even before I got here. So say what you want about Thibs, he gets the job done.”

Honestly I dont know what to think here...Hart sounds like he's sincere. He's played at this level and I haven't. Who am I to question him if that's what he believes...However, I once watched a HOF work out on several occasions without stretching(in another sport). I was shocked when I saw it and I knew that didn't put him in the best position - I knew this for a fact.

Everyone is still human and we all do things we shouldn't. What I would ask Hart...If it's not the minutes. Then why was there so many Knicks falling to injury last year? and regarding this year- if it wasn't the minutes- why did the Knicks look like they had full control of that OKC game and then as soon as the 2nd quarter started everything trended downward?

The numbers say there is a down trend and why are top teams(that have better records) playing with deeper rotations? Wish I could hear his thoughts on this....

Sure they all want to play major minutes mentally but it's logical that it will lead to stress physically and increase the chances for wear, tear and injury. The NBA season is not a race but a marathon. No marathon runner takes off on speed 100 from the start line. You gotta pace yourself and be just as strong towards the finish line as you were when you started the race. Thibs is gonna Thibs and he's never gonna change so ultimately it's gonna come down to the players to get on a Lebronesque training, diet and workout routine to keep their bodies in top shape.

The fact that it has never worked out in the end across Thibs' entire career as an elite coach, and it's a style that is as much of an outlier in coaching circles as exists in the NBA, is the macro picture here - and really the only thing that matters.

Master motivator, intense, hard driving, hard working, well-established NBA coach having his players bought-in and defending him publicly is no surprise, and cool to see as a fan, but it's also the polar opposite of empirical evidence.

Players aren’t going to throw a coach that they respect under the bus. Which actually shows that they still respect him and believe in what he’s doing. It’s been a theme for Thibs’ teams, that’s why they all overachieve because players respect him and buy in.

Yeah, every year it's the same thing

Win a lot in the regular season, flame out in the playoffs cause guys are exhausted from playing playoff rotations for 82 games.

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bulls players came to the defense of their head coach Saturday when asked if Tom Thibodeau should have had Derrick Rose on the court at the time he tore his left ACL late in their playoff-opening 103-91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers had whittled a 20-point deficit to 12 when Rose jump-stopped and elevated. He grabbed his left knee as he landed with 1:22 left and the Bulls leading 99-87. Rose writhed in pain before being helped off the court. The reigning MVP underwent an MRI that revealed a season-ending torn ACL.

"Philly was making a run, and in playoff basketball, you never want to give a team confidence," Bulls guard Rip Hamilton said. "So if it's having your starters in when you've got a team down, you've got to try to keep them down. You can't let them back in the game or make a little run, so we needed guys out there who could put the ball in the basket."

KAT basically ADMITS they know he wants you to play a lot of minutes. His rant about Thibs getting the job done is nonsense though. He blew up his team in Chicago and Minny and was FIRED from both jobs. The job is to win a championship. He never got it done. He was an assistant in Boston so, he didn't get the job done there either. He has nothing to do with minutes distribution there. He was along for the ride.

Hey Josh, KAT just missed a game because of crazy minutes. WTF are you even talking about? It happened to Shart multiple times last year. It even happened to HART in the playoffs!!! FFS!!!

No player.going to talk bad about the HC they respect. They are tired of hearing about it but, THEY ALL HAVE SAID THEY WERE TIRED as well!!

I really need to just ignore this entire discussion. Facts don't matter. Logic doesn't matter. Common sense doesn't matter. Why bother? You're all gonna be pissed if we limp into the playoffs again and your tears will be salty.

the players want to play big minutes because they are competitors but most metrics would suggest playing too many minutes is not only potentially risking more injury but also the performance probably declines as well overtime.

Hart is an energy guy. The ORL game if you watched it would suggest he wasn't ready to play that game. Why is that the case if he wasn't overworked coming off a 3 games in 4 nights he didn't have his legs. His contests on defense were poor he didn't make extra energy plays.

Yesterday he seemed back to his old self but it also would suggest he is impacted by big minutes when were are playing a lot of games in a short period of time.

Coach Thibodeau hasn’t used the second unit as much as I expected. Jimmy, Karl and Andrew are not only leading the NBA in minutes, they’re also running the floor a ton. Among all NBA players, Andrew ranks first in total minutes (1,628), Karl ranks second (1,607) and Jimmy ranks third (1,580). When you look at the total miles run, Jimmy is fourth in the NBA (111.9), Karl is fifth (108.9) and Andrew is sixth (107.9). I feel like playing the bench more would allow you guys on the second unit to contribute more, while also helping the starters stay fresh. Has that been a discussion that’s taken place with Coach behind the scene? How do you handle that?

Jamal Crawford: We haven’t really talked about it much, to be honest with you. As a professional, your job is just to stay ready. Any competitor wants to be out there playing, but we just have to go with the flow, try to make the starters as good as possible and do our best to help the team whenever we are out there. For us [on the second unit], we just try to help each other collectively and help make the team better. That’s all we can really do: be ready when our number is called.

Minutes police have a case that would land this man in Guantanamo if it went to trial.

No but at the same time he could have just not said as much. Josh doesnt strike me as the type to not say what he believes and means...Now Towns is a politican. He will keep his true feelings to himself

Of course he believes it. The guy still played in the playoffs last year after ripping his mid section apart.

The Nova guys are used to it. Jay Wright basically played a 6 man rotation.

KAT I think is being political, but at the end of the day, these guys are vets and should also know how to manage their bodies.

Obviously, we don’t have the players perspective. But they don’t have ours. They’ve never sat and watched themselves play a game from the couch. There’s a lot of information there too you know.

I can see how Thibs’ playoff history can be viewed as failure because his teams overachieve so much in the regular season that expectations start getting too high so when the team levels off in the playoffs it’s look at as a failure. But it’s a lot harder to overachieve in the playoffs than it is in the regular season so rarely does that ever happen

The players will defend and say that they don't mind. But it is Thibs job to understand his rotation and fatigue.

My kids tell me that they can eat 100 fcking chicken nuggets.. that doesn't mean he fcking should.
