"The Knicks have enough room for rookie vet minimum under the second apron." What is a ROOKIE VET contract? I didn't know there was such a thing. How many years before a vet qualifies for a regular vet minimum versus a rookie vet minimum? :o :reporter: :dontknow:

Rookie vet is a guy like McCullars, right?

Who else on the Knicks might qualify? Hukporti or Dadiet? Both are under contract.
Pate?

Is there room for a two way still, or is that out?

I could be wrong but I believe last year counted as a year of service for McCullar so he would get 1 year vet min deal which I don't believe the Knicks can fit under the 2nd apron after signing Shamet. It looks like the vet min for 1 year of service is $2,048,494. Zero years of service guys like Nnaji or Diawara could be signed for a vet min of $1,272,870.

Guys like Shamet with 2 years or more only count against the cap for the 2 year vet min of $2,296,274 even though he will be paid more than that for more years of service.

I would have either used this slot on a big or went with a non guaranteed and waited for the buyout market.

Where is Shamet getting minutes with Clarkson/McBride on the roster. We need big man depth behind Mitchell Robinson.

It doesn't move the needle much big picture, but I would have played it differently and give the slot to Precious.

Garrison Matthews could beat out Landry Shamet in training camp.

Matthews shoots a slightly better 3pt shooting percentage, is one inch taller, and his wing span is 1 inch longer than Shamet.

Can Shamet overcome all these disadvantages? Stay tuned!

Thank god, now we won't have to hear Ben Simmon's name ever again.
