Is there anyway Brand can come to NY?

Post#1 » by randomhero423 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:40 pm

Let's say Brand makes it known he wants out of LAC. What can NYK offer to the Clips that can net them Brand? (outside draft picks). Maybe..

NY sends: David Lee, Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler, Zach Randolph.

LAC sends: Cuttino Mobley, Eltan Brand.

i'm not saying there's a possibliity of this happening. but i'm just wondering what it will take. (let's also assume this is a sign and trade situation).

if we sign artest after this type of trade to the MLE and draft a sg like mayo our team looks infinitely better.

PG: Marbury
SG: Mayo
SF: Artest
PF: Brand
C: Curry

a man can dream...

i think that would be waaaay too much for brand. he's injury prone now and he's not that young. we'd be giving up 4 young guys who have a LOT of potential and z-RO who other teams still think can get 20 and 10. no thanks

brand is a top 3-4 PF in the game. and he has amazing work ethic.

only 02/03 and 03/04 he played less then 80 games. (fine in 05 he played 79...)

this guy is a franchise-type player who is severally underrated. getting him and artest in a off season would be flatout amazing. lee/nate/crawford/chandler/z-ro will never amount to anything CLOSE to brand.

he's almost 30 and coming off a serious injury. how many more years you think he will give us? 3? 4? nate, jamal, lee and chandler give us at least 8 easily, add the lotto pick and we've got ourselves a nice young team. i don't wanna give all of that up for a 30 year old pf/center coming off a major injury.

Brand can opt out, he has 1 yr left with a Trade Kicker, this is only real injury he has ever had in his career, the Clippers could lose him to a team with available Salary Cap, if he does decide to opt out.
It could be possible he can be available for less, since he still is out with the injury, plus I don't think think Sterling wants to fork out any more money with a long term contract for Brand since the first time didn't net any tangible results, (ie, only once in the Playoffs).
Brand can still play and he is still better than Randolph any day of the week, even with one bad leg, which I think will be 100% by the end of the season.
Then again, NY wouldn't know how to handle a guy like Brand, he's too good for the City, they would only try to destroy him, like they did to Dice, which was pathetic, how badly he was treated by the Rotten Apple.

We dont need to go crazy to get Brand. He's damaged goods but I'd take a chance on him. Plus, Zack's contract is better than a resigned Brand. Without the S&T scenario:

Zack, Jones, Malik, Chandler (or Balkman) for Brand, Mobley, Aaron Williams.

LAC gets cap relief and a good young SF for Mobley. Zack replaces Brand with 20/10 numbers.

We get a true SG and a PF that can hit 20/10 plus defend.

I would if they sweetened the deal a little on their end. If they take out Mobley and give us shorter contracts like Sam I Am or Maggette then that would be tough to turn down.
